iGoodbye is the Grand Finale of iCarly, and the 13th and final episode of Season 5.
When Carly's father is asked to take her to a Father/Daughter Air Force Dance and he cannot come, Spencer opts to take his place, but when an incident happens on the night of the dance, Carly gets a big surprise.
Meanwhile, Spencer fixes up a motorcycle which Sam finds interesting, Freddie gets a new and expensive phone, and Gibby tries to get another replica of his head at the mall.
Tropes
- Bittersweet Ending:
- Carly gets to live with her dad over in Italy—but this means that she has to leave Spencer and the rest of the iCarly-gang. Also, her webshow will have to, at the very least, be put on hiatus.
- Spencer finally tells his and Carly's dad that he dropped out of law school. Though initially angry (to the point of almost strangling Spencer), Steven accepts his son's decision and they both agree that it was probably for the best.
- Book Ends:
- The first episode has the gang make the first ever webcast of iCarly; here, they make the last webcast (at least for a while) as Carly is moving to Italy with her father.
- Back in "iWanna Stay With Spencer", Carly almost left Seattle to live in Yakima with her and Spencer's grandfather, which she didn't like. Here, she leaves to live with their father in Italy and is fine with that.
- The first episode ended with a crazy hat party; the last episode has Carly's friends have a crazy hat party after she and her dad return from the dance.
- But Now I Must Go: Steven tells Carly he has to leave right after the dance, which disappoints her as she was looking forward to spending time with him after a while. So, he invites her to come live in Italy with him which she accepts. Carly leaves with her father after she and the rest of the gang give one last webcast.
- End-of-Series Awareness: The episode title itself alludes to the fact that this is the final episode of the series.
- Grand Finale: The last ever episode of the show, until the 2021 revival.
- Last Episode, New Character: Sort of—Colonel Steven Shay, Carly and Spencer's dad, had been mentioned numerous times in prior episodes, but this is the first time he makes an actual physical appearance.
- Long Last Look: As she is leaving for Italy, Carly takes one last look at the apartment before going down the elevator with Sam.
- Sequel Hook:
- Carly promises the viewers this is the last webcast "for a while" before she leaves for Italy. Sure enough, a revival of the show was announced eight years later.
- The last shot of Sam riding the motorcycle out of Seattle, which marks the start of Sam & Cat.
- Sick Episode: The second half of the episode becomes this with Spencer after an I'll Lewbert sneezes all over his face and right into his mouth, causing him to catch Lewbert's cold and become too unwell to take Carly to the dance.
- Unseen No More: Carly and Spencer's father Colonel Steven Shay makes his first onscreen appearance.
- With a Foot on the Bus: Actually averted here—Carly's initially hesitant to take up her dad's offer of moving to Italy with him, not wanting to leave Spencer and the others behind. But knowing how much Carly misses Steven, Spencer and the rest of the iCarly-gang encourage her to go with him to Italy. Sam even points out that they can always resume their webshow when Carly comes back to the United States.
