After his rescue by Genocide Jill, Byakuya comes by Makoto's room and awkwardly asks for advice on how to express his gratitude to the girl he constantly put down. Tropes

  • Cannot Spit It Out: Byakuya makes it clear that he has trouble expressing gratitude towards people he finds beneath him and actually went to Makoto for advice to give his thanks to Toko for saving his life.
Byakuya: Anyways, I’ll get right to business; I’m in the uncomfortable position of having to express my gratitude to a commoner.
    Makoto: What do you…
Byakuya: I’m referring to your use of Genocide Jack’s combat prowess that stopped that construction machine from pelting me to death.
    Makoto: O…oh, don’t worry about it…
Makoto: (Thinking) On second thought…maybe you should worry…
  • Cringe Comedy: When Alter Ego Kyoko comes up with a way for Kyoko to confess to Makoto, it shuts itself off... and reappears with cat ears and confesses in a cutesy way, causing her to slam the laptop shut in embarrassment.
Alter-Cat Kyoko: Nyaa! Naegi-kun! Your smile makes my heart go all doki-doki! Please be mine, nyaa!
  • Everyone Can See It:
    • When Makoto denies that he and Kyoko are dating, Byakuya points out it's very obvious that they're attracted to each other.
Byakuya: Well, what’s the issue? You’ve already managed to alter your girlfriend’s personality, surely you must have some advice on how to adjust my own on a temporary basis.
      Makoto: G…girlfriend…?
Byakuya: Good god the both of you are dense. I’m referring to that Ultimate Detective Kirigiri.
      Makoto: K…Kyoko? We…we’re not dating…
Byakuya: Don’t make me repeat myself, Makoto. I already had this conversation with Kyoko prior to our summer vacation. Anyone with half a brain can see that you two are attracted to each other.
Makoto: But we’re not! I admit…she’s…cute…but even if I were…infatuated with her…there’s no way she’d find anything in me.
Byakuya: Whatever; you and Kirigiri dance around each other however much you want. This whole conversation was a total waste of my time. Goodbye, Makoto.
    • When Chihiro shows off Alter Ego to Kyoko and it copies her, it shows how obvious it is that she's romantically interested in Makoto and is reluctant to confess out of fear of ruining their friendship.
