Directed By: Alan Taylor
Teleplay By: Bonnie Mark

After deciding to accept Giardello's offer to become part of the Homicide Unit, Kellerman gets paired together with Lewis, and the two of them have to solve the shooting of an elderly woman at a bus stop. They get help from Brodie (Max Perlich), a news cameraman who happened to shoot footage of the killers. The entire squad has to move across the street to an abandoned bank after a gas leak, leaving everybody out of sorts. Having passed the sergeant's exam with flying colors, Howard gets promoted to sergeant, and starts butting heads with Lewis (who thinks Howard is overstepping her bounds) and Russert (who thinks Howard needs to use a more subtle approach).

This episode contains examples of:

  • Bait-and-Switch Comment: When Jonathan says he's had the worst night of his life, Kellerman, assuming he means the shooting, tells him something like that is always rough, but Jonathan actually meant the date he was on.
  • Call-Back: When Kellerman says he's heard about Lewis' driving, Lewis asks if he talked to Bayliss.
  • The Cameo: Illeana Douglas and Fisher Stevens appear as Jeana and Jonathan, eyewitnesses to the shooting who were on a Blind Date.
  • Covert Pervert: Right before the shooting, Jeana asked her date, "So where's the weirdest place you've ever had sex?" She asks the same thing of Lewis.
  • Exact Words: When Kellerman and Lewis need a car to drive to the crime scene, Giardello tells them to take the next available one. So they do - they take Pembleton's when he pulls in to talk to Giardello about his case.
  • For the Evulz: The young man who killed the elderly woman at the bus stop apparently had committed a string of crimes for the thrill, and so his friend could capture them on video.
  • Friendship Moment: Munch sincerely congratulates Howard on being promoted to sergeant, invites her to come to the Waterfront while he's on duty, and even gets her to dance with him.
  • Get Out!: Giardello orders Brodie to get out of the office when he tries to give him the videotape of the crime scene.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: Even though Brodie was told by his boss at the station not to give the videotape he shot of the crime scene to the Homicide unit, he does so because he thinks he got footage of the murderer and thinks the police should know about it. He ends up losing his job because of it.
  • Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Peace: A unique example - as the murder suspect is about to get married and the minister says the traditional line, that's when Kellerman and Lewis come in to arrest him.
