Recap / Henry Danger S 1 E 21 Captain Jerk

Go To

When a video of Captain Man destroying a kids' lemonade stand goes viral, Henry and the others decide to host a contest to boost his reputation. But Henry panics when Piper becomes one of the winners, and another winner seems to have an ulterior motive.

Tropes:

  • Artistic License – Statistics: The contest involves people having to guess a random number to meet Captain Man and Kid Danger. The random number is four digits, but it takes a very long time (a few days) for the final winner to guess the number, especially as they show the entire city obsessively trying to guess the correct number.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Whoever was filming the video of Captain Man destroying the lemonade stand doesn't seem to notice the spider crawling across the table.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: The spider can be seen crawling around the lemonade stand in the video, long before Ray reveals why he got mad and destroyed it in the first place.
  • Gilligan Cut: Captain Man is adamant about not putting out a video apologizing as he doesn't care about what others think about him. Cut to him doing a video where he is apologizing and sincerely telling everyone that he cares what they think about him.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Captain Man got into trouble after he destroyed a lemonade stand set up by two little girls (he saw a deadly spider). He spent the rest of the episode trying to recover his image since no one knew the real reason.
  • Meaningful Name: Schwoz's sister who looks like a horse, is appropriately named Whinny.
  • Narrative Profanity Filter: While reading the various negative comments over Captain Man's apology video, Gooch refuses to finish reading his comment because he claims, "My religious beliefs prevent me from saying it."
  • Not What It Looks Like: The video makes it appear Captain Man is smashing the lemonade stand out of anger; in reality, right after the girl said "a dollar," Captain Man saw a deadly spider on the lemonade stand and tried to smash it before it could hurt the kids.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Lampshaded; Henry is worried that Piper might recognize him in his Kid Danger suit and Domino Mask during the tour, but Schwoz reassures him she won't. But when he adds that she will be down in the Man Cave for almost an hour, Schwoz decides to use special makeup to disguise his face just in case.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The massage place Jake is interviewed at is called Rub Me Do. The musicians there are also caricatures of the Beatles themselves.
    • The laughing couple briefly watches the iCarly episode "iGet Pranky" (specifically the scene where Gibby falls from the ceiling beam).
  • Vocal Dissonance: Schwoz's voice changing invention alters the voice of whoever wears it. It changes his voice to that of a little kid, and Henry's becomes deep and manly so he's unrecognizable.
