Recap / Hell Girl S 2 E 14 The Peaceful Lakeshore

Go To

A washed-up writer named Kakinuma decides to take revenge on a producer friend of his who became famous. During his attempted revenge, the producer's wife is killed and their son, Takuma, is framed. Takuma contacts Hell Girl but decides not to go through with it. Shortly after this, the producer is assaulted by Kakinuma. But before he can kill Takuma, his ex-lover sends him to hell because he kicked her down the stairs and killed their unborn child. Because of Kakinuma's disappearance, Takuma is accused of assaulting his father.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Accidental Murder: Kakinuma killing Takuma's mother was accidental, but he feels no remorse for having done it and blames it on the father for considering moving out of the neighborhood.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Despite successfully being dragged to Hell in the end, Kakinuma clearly isn't suffering as much as he should be and says Hell could be interesting, too. As well, Takuma's reputation is completely ruined, he's arrested, and he's blamed for the death of his mother and for attacking his father.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Kakinuma, who pretends to be a good and loyal friend to Takuma's family, but was secretly working against them to ruin their reputation.
  • Commonality Connection: Ai empathizes with Takuma due to his being ostracized by his community and called "The Devil's Child", just as she had been.
  • Downer Ending: Unlike a few other Hell Girl Clients, Takuma's life only becomes worse when his oppressor is sent to Hell.
  • Evil Is Petty: The episode's entire plot only happens because Kakinuma is jealous that his old producer friend became famous, which spurred him into attempting to ruin the man's life.
  • Frame-Up: Part of Kakinuma's revenge plan is to make the community hate Takuma by framing him for various things, such as the murder of the boy's own mother.
  • Jerkass: Kakinuma. He ruins the life of his former friend over a petty grudge, including framing the man's innocent son for things he had not done and kicking his pregnant girlfriend down a plight of stairs after finding out that she's pregnant, making her miscarry.
  • Never My Fault: Kakinuma blames Takuma's father for his lack of success as a writer. When the father tells him the things he could have done to preserve his career, Kakinuma attempts to kill him.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Kakinuma's ex-lover sends him to Hell, inadvertently saving Takuma from probable death at Kakinuma's hands. However, her doing so helped him win, as Takuma and his family's reputation is completely in shambles, just as Kakinuma wanted.
  • The Scapegoat: By the end of the episode, Takuma is blamed for everything, including killing his mother and attacking his father due to Kakinuma's disappearance just moments before the police arrived.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Kakinuma attempts to kill Takuma with a broken glass bottle before he's sent to Hell by his ex-girlfriend.
