Recap / Hamster & Gretel S1E56 "Flake It Till You Make It"

Go To

Hamster and Gretel have to stop a villain known as The Flake from defacing all the timepieces in the city and cause mass hysteria. But not only does The Flake tend to be late for his set appointments, but can also turn into a cloud of croissant particles, so he can sneak by while the rest is distracted from the waiting. Not helping is that the waiting keeps Gretel from her appointments with Dave to prepare for the Father-Daughter Dance.

Tropes:

  • Batman Gambit: Since Gretel is also unreliable with keeping appointments, she eventually realizes how to beat The Flake at his own game and figures out exactly where The Flake would hang out 37 minutes later. This leads to a successful ambush at the bakery.
  • Brick Joke: At the closed costume shop, Dave sees a fish person and mistakes his appearance for a costume. At the Father-Daughter dance, that same fish person is seen at the sidelines with his own daughter.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The episode starts with Gretel being late for the Daddy-Daughter Brunch Dave had planned, which results in his cornflakes being soggy. Gretel eventually defeats The Flake by dousing him with milk, turning him soggy flakes too.
  • Crossover Punchline: All the jingles for the "beloved" clock tower Big Jen are revealed at the end to be sung by none other than Love Händel.
  • Double Meaning: The Flake can turn himself into flakes, and also tends to be unreliable with keeping appointments, i.e. he's being a flake.
  • Shout-Out: The Big Jen clocktower is similar to the Big Ben clocktower in UK.
