Recap / Hamster & Gretel S1E43 "The Ice Queen Cometh"

Go To

Kevin and Gretel discover a new, trendy ice cream parlor title Ice Queen's Ice Cream. Though, the proprietor, Inga the Ice Queen, only lets in people she considers cool. Kevin's disdain for the idea makes him cool in Inga's eyes, so she lets him in. However, Inga's idea of coolness soon reveals to be more sinister when she allows Kevin a taste of an exclusive ice cream flavor of hers.

Tropes:

  • Clock Punk: Pendulum Pete, a villain that hates digital clocks without pendulums, has several clock aesthetics in his looks: a mustache resembling clock hands, and straight-up pendulums for arms.
  • Cryo-Prison: Anyone getting a taste of Inga's Eïysze-laced ice cream gets frozen solid; only those she deems the coolest in the town get this special "privilege", and are even displayed as part of her specially curated "Kül Krü".
  • Exact Words: Inga tells Gretel that nothing on Earth can melt Eïysze. Gretel's solution is to Hurl It into the Sun.
  • Exactly What I Aimed At: Gretel seemingly throws the vat containing the Eïysze towards Inga, but she dodges it. As it turns out, Gretel was actually aiming it to the sun.
  • Green Rocks: Eïysze, an extraterrestrial element that Inga had excavated, and uses to her advantage. People that ingest it freeze in seconds, and only melt if the element is destroyed.
  • Harmless Freezing: Kevin is still conscious after being frozen, and after the Eïysze compound that kept its victims frozen is destroyed, they all thaw out of it and turn out completely fine.
  • Here We Go Again!: As soon as Ice Queen Ice Cream is closed, a new exclusive store selling hot soup, run by another European-accented woman, opens and people start another line to get in. Hamster Hangs A Lampshade on it.
Hamster: [weary sigh] This town, man.
  • An Ice Person: Inga, aka the Ice Queen. She uses an extraterrestrial element she calls Eïysze to freeze her targets solid.
  • My Nayme Is: Inga decided to name the compound Eïysze. It's pronounced the exact same as ice. You know where it leads to.
  • Pretty in Mink: Inga is so cool, that she can wear a stylish fur coat in the middle of summer.
  • Villain Song: The Ice Queen gets one, explaining her origins as a poor dairy farmer who, after getting teased by cool kids, desires to be the coolest herself.
  • Wannabe Line: As soon as Ice Queen Ice Cream opens, a line forms to get in, with Inga deciding who is cool enough to go in. Kevin doesn't want to wait in line for "trendy" ice cream, but Gretel does, so he has to join her in the line. Inga rejects Gretel for being too eager for ice cream, but deems Kevin cool because he disdains being cool, which ironically makes him cool.
