- Human Popsicle: Victims of the Varme Tyv are frozen solid, having had their body heat drained away.
- Internal Reveal: Monroe and Rosalee learn that Juliette is a Hexenbiest.
- Jumping Off the Slippery Slope: Juliette tries to kill Adalind by telekinetically shoving a stone gargoyle onto her. She fails, but that's a sudden leap to premeditated, cold-blooded murder.
- Not So Above It All: After finding out about Juliette's condition, Rosalee remains her usual calm, supportive and soft-spoken self. Once everyone else has left, however...Rosalee: SHE'S A FREAKIN' HEXENBIEST!?
- No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Played with. The second Varme Tyv tries to kill a woman who offers him a lift, although she gets out and escapes.
- Properly Paranoid: Kenneth insists on Adalind going out with a bodyguard. She complains, but this turns out to be a good idea when he saves her from Juliette.
- Title Drop: A Hibernaculum is where Varme Tyv hibernate together in a big pile for warmth.
