Recap / Green Eggs And Ham 2019 S 1 E 11 Boat

Go To

Guy and Michellee get closer while Sam makes an important decision.

Tropes appearing in "Boat"

  • Actor Allusion: Jill Talley voices a woman named Karen.
  • Brick Joke: The "Bigman" that McWinkle and Glunz keeps talking about is not a nickname...it's the real name of their boss.
  • 555: Michellee's number, which she gives to Guy before they separate.
  • The Cat Came Back: The Goat finally catches back up with Sam and Guy and gives chase once he meets them in Meepville.
  • Cool Boat: The titular boat, a ferry which goes directly from Stovepipe Junction to Meepville. It has glass panels that cover the deck which allow it to transform into a submarine.
  • Conflicting Loyalty: Throughout the episode, Sam is conflicted whether he should give Mr. Jenkins to his boss Snerz or take him back to his home on Chickeraffe Island. After a talk with E.B., he chose the latter.
  • Da Chief: The BADGUYS' boss Chief Bigman, a puny little creature with a huge temper.
  • Good All Along: McWinkle and Gluntz, the BADGUYS, are actually the good guys, the narrator even states this trope in the rhyme. It turns out that BADGUYS is just an acronym which stands for the Bureau of Animal Defense - Glurfsburg Upper Yipville Section, and they were trying to stop Sam from selling Mr. Jenkins to Mr. Snerz.
  • Hope Spot: Just as Guy is finally going to eat green eggs and ham, McWinkle and Gluntz show up at the house, forcing them to flee.
  • I Have This Friend: Sam hypothesizes with E.B. about the possibility of Mr. Jenkins living in a Big Fancy House where he'd be taken care of rather than going back to the wild as an indirect way of confessing that he plans on selling him to Snerz. E.B. shuts the possibility down immediately, convincing Sam not to go through with it.
  • Late to the Realization: Neither Gluntz nor (presumably) McWinkle seems to recognize that the organization they belong to, BADGUYS, sounds like "bad guys" (as in villains) until Guy's mother points it out.
  • The Napoleon: Bigman is actually a really tiny creature, but he has quite the temper.
  • Non-Indicative Name:
    • The BADGUYS aren't actually card-carrying villains. Their name stands for Bureau of Animal Defense - Glurfsburg Upper Yipville Section. They're wildlife conservationists, not poachers. Guy's Mother lampshades this by stating that their name is very misleading.
    • Their boss's name, whom they refer to as "the big man," is actually a tiny creature... named Bigman.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Sam, feeling guilty about his plans to sell the Chickeraffe to his boss, isn't in the mood to eat his green eggs and ham.
  • Plot Hole: The narrator claims that he knew the BADGUYS weren’t really bad after all, but if he knew that, couldn’t he also know that Sam was trying to sell Mr. Jenkins to Snerz? Because his reaction to it in the last episode has us believe that even he is shocked by this.note
  • Shout-Out: When Michellee and Guy are observing Meepville together, one of the buildings has the words "Once-ler".
  • Wham Line:
Guy's Mother: I'm not telling you anything. You're bad!
Gluntz: I'm sorry, one more time?
  • Who's on First?: Gluntz trying to explain to Guy's Mother how the BADGUYS are actually good guys, even though they call themselves the BADGUYS.
