  • Accidental Truth: Dipper taunts Thompson by editing a message to read "Thompson drinks popcorn butter". At the end of the short, they find out to their amusement that he really does.
  • Air-Vent Passageway: Using this is part of Dipper's plan to get into the movie theater.
  • Brick Joke: Dipper writes "Thompson drinks popcorn butter" where a movie's title should be displayed to distract Thompson. It's revealed in the end that Thompson does drink popcorn butter.
  • Call-Back: Pages in Mabel's scrapbook include the Smile Dip, battling the gnomes and Pioneer Day.
  • The Caper: The Mystery shack crew preform an elaborate plan so they can watch a movie after being banned from the theater.
    • It takes the exact amount of time the preview trailers take before the start of the actual film which is 43 minutes.
  • Cutting the Knot: Stan's lockpicking skills. Which consist of smashing it with a rock.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: The Pines family gets banned from the theater because Mabel brought in one candy bar, and the theater has a (very) strict "No Outside Food or Drink" policy.
  • Drunk with Power: Thompson takes his job a tad too seriously.
  • Eye Beam: Octavia reveals this.
  • Noodle Incident: Before telling the "Petting Zoo" story Mabel mentions that she and Dipper dog-sled raced a One-Eyed space lizard.
  • Overly-Long Tongue: Octavia has one wicked tongue.
  • Shown Their Work: Cattle have been known to eat birds.
  • Snacksploitation: The plot of "Heist Movie" is kicked off with the Pines family getting banned from a movie theater due to Mabel sneaking in a candy bar.
  • Take That!: Dipper is on the money when he estimates that the movie's previews will be over as soon as they break into the theater's projection room. How much time does it take for them to break in? 43 minutes.
