To Each His Ideal

It's the anniversary of the death of the previous head of Wales, causing Pervical to return home under Aglovale's requests. Gawain shows up asking where Percival's second older brother is, finding it odd that a man like him wouldn't go to his father's grave.

In truth, the second older brother, Lamorak, does visit his father's grave, just not with other company around. After paying his respects, he stumbles across a frail woman, seemingly tied to his home.

Tropes

  • Clones Are People, Too: Rowley looks visually identical to Aleis's son, yet has a completely different personality. This is enough for Merlin to give up trying to revive the dead and focus elsewhere.
  • Desperately Craves Affection: Aleis craves for Rowley's recognitions, even if she has to backstab Lamorak for that.
  • Foreshadowing: Despite being a master of magic, Lamorak doesn't bother healing up the wound on cheek until prompted. He later receives a much fatal one, revealing that his healing magic is actually weak.
  • Honey Trap: Gareth attempts to pull one off on Percival in order to lure him into a pitfall. "Attempts" since Percival didn't fall for it and only played along due to Lamorak's quick thinking.
  • Hidden Purpose Test: Despite finishing Cath Palug's trial, Percival asks what was even the point of it. Naturally, it's too prove that the three brother has the right to bestow his own power to protect their home land.
  • I Surrender, Suckers: Justified as Lamorak is heavily wounded and unable to move during his surrender, and is able to move again after being healed.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: Because Cath Palug placed a barrier so that only the members of the House of Wales could pass through, he's the first non-cabal being that knows Lamorak is in the kingdom along with Percival and Aglovale.
  • Sequel Hook: The event ends with Lamorak still on the run and has his ties cut with the House of Wales and possibly the cabal as well due to Aleis's duplicity.
  • Start of Darkness: Herzeloyde's death from bandits lead Gahmuret to the forbidden arts, which eventually lead to Lamorak joining the cabal.
  • We Need a Distraction: Tor had the crew cover up his retrieval about the cabal's base under the guise of doing errands at the market, stating that somebody in the cabal might be eavesdropping at the castle.
  • You're Not My Father: A quarrel breaks out between Aleis and Rowley, with the latter proclaiming that the former is not his mom and smashing the vial containing her blood. Justified in that despite looking similar to Aleis's son, it's Merlin that did the creation process.
