Introducing Lorelai Planetarium

Christopher is moving to Stars Hollow. Lorelai is dreading telling Rory that she got married without inviting her. Logan shows up and takes Rory to a pre-launch party. Rory gets bored with all the boat talk and writes a hard-hitting article bashing everyone there.

Lorelai isn't crazy about the idea of giving Gigi Rory's room. It turns out April has appendicitis.

Tropes

  • Analogy Backfire: Lorelai tries to explain that while she loves tv, she doesn't want a giant flat-screen on her wall, just like she loves grapes, but she wouldn't want to eat a humongous… no, actually, that would be fun.
  • Big Eater: Lorelai is impressed with how much food they order in apartment 4F in Logan's building.
  • Call-Back: Lorelai claims to have brought back snails from France. When they serves escargot in a Friday Night dinner, Lorelai was thoroughly grossed out by it. Rory passes, claiming she had a lunch of bugs and lizards, so she's good.
  • Captain Obvious: The boy/girl party April wants to go to is a party with both boys and girls.
  • Coincidental Broadcast: Luke switches on the tv in the hospital room and accidentally catches a scene from High Society in which Margalo Gillmore's character apologizes to her fiance for eloping to Maryland, the very thing Lorelai Gilmore wantes to do with him at the end of the last season.
  • Companion Cube: Henry the empty suit of armor. Rory hurts his feelings by saying he's creepy.
  • Continuity Nod: In previous episodes it has been mentioned that Rory will get access to her trust fund when she turns twenty-five, so when Logan accuses her of being a trust fund kid herself he's right.
  • Double Standard: Fashion obsessed Lorelai who for several seasons has been considering outfits a way of communicating, thinks men shouldn't think too hard about how they look in their clothes.
  • Dramatically Missing the Point:
    • Luke thinks April looks ill. She takes it as a comment on her appearance.
    • Lorelai thinks Rory is mad that she married Christopher, but Rory is more upset that she didn't get to be at her mother's wedding.
    • Rory thinks Logan is upset because he thinks she's bashing him, telling him he's not like other trust fund kids. He just thinks she's a hypocrite, since she's a rich trust fund kid herself.
    • In a bit of a panic, Luke thinks April needs an appendix transplant and wonders if he can give her his.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: "Purple Nardini" was a nickname of April's after she had an accident with a purple marker.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: Rory tries to explain that she wouldn't have talked Lorelai out of getting married, but in explaining realizes that she totally would have.
  • Feminine Women Can Cook: After six seasons of a defining characteristic of Lorelai's being that she can't cook, suddenly she can cook snails.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: Lorelai only knew she was getting married right before the ceremony, as did Christopher, because they were hiding from rain in the chapel.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Rory interviewed Barack Obama a couple of weeks ago. The season ends with her going on his campaign tour as a reporter.
    • Lorelai points out that lots of college graduates move back home. It takes until season eight, but Rory does.
  • Hypocrite: Rory criticizing trust-fund kids from wealthy families.
  • Maiden Name Debate: Discussed. Lorelai says she doesn't want to be Hayden Planetarium or Gil-less
  • Mistaken For Couple: Luke and Lorelai still make it look like this at the hospital waiting for news about April's appendicitis.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Lorelai cooks. Rory finds it very odd, and she is right, in that Lorelai is only doing it because she is ashamed of getting married without telling Rory first.
  • Parental Sexuality Squick: April has such a bad case of this she can't even handle Luke asking if there will be kissing at the party she is going to.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Christopher has a peach shirt.
  • Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness: April uses words like "hyperphagia".
  • Shout-Out:
    • Rory tells a guy she interviewed the Senator of Illinois, Barack Obama, two weeks previously.
    • Rory saw Norma Rae.
    • April sarcastically asks Luke if he didn't see An Inconvenient Truth.
    • High Society is on the channel Luke randomly turns the hospital tv to.
  • Spoiled Brat: While not an established character trait for her, April throws a tantrum when Luke tells her she can't go to a party.
  • Spy Speak: Luke changes "kissing" to "juggling" so he can talk to April about it.
  • The Talk: As Luke tells April, who can't hear the word "kiss" from him without cringing: she shouldn't juggle before she's ready.
  • Verbal Backspace: As she denies it, Lorelai realizes that she would in fact like to eat a humongous grape.
  • Wild Teen Party: Averted. Luke worries April will go to one, but in the end she can't because she needs an apendectomy.
