Kill Me Now

Rory has to pick a sport or athletic endeavor for school. Emily suggests golf, so she can join her grandfather at the club. Lorelai arranges a wedding at the inn.

Maid of the week: Sarah, not Mira.
Before that: Heidi with the closing-things problem, Trina, Sophia who sang, and Anton, who was a man and yet indistinguishable from Sophia.
Masseur who bears remarkable resemblance to Antonio Banderas: Maury.
Creative solution: Blueberry shortcake, in the absence of strawberries.

Provides examples of:

  • Captain Obvious: Lorelai calls Richard and says "Hi Dad", then follows it up with "Yes, Dad, it's Lorelai. Who else calls you 'Dad'?"
  • Childish Older Sibling: Although Lorelai is her mother, she acts like they're sisters, and when Rory has a better relationship with Emily and Richard she ends up picking a fight over whose boobs are bigger.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Lorelai is upset about Emily hijacking Rory into spending the day with Richard and tells Sookie to cheer her up, but Sookie is too upset that she can't make strawberry shortcake with blueberries to focus on Lorelai's feelings.
Lorelai: Wow, you suck at this.
  • Compensating for Something: Parodied through inversion and gender-reversal when Lorelai and Rory both claim the other's boobs are bigger.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: Rory is this when it comes to golf, and by implication all sports.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?:
    • Lorelai and Rory's "boob measuring contest".
    • Jackson's reaction to Sookie looking at other sellers' vegetables makes it sound like she's cheating on him. Her running after him and apologizing does nothing to change the impression.
  • Dramatically Missing the Point: Jackson treats Sookie checking out other people's vegetables as cheating.
  • Double In-Law Marriage: The wedding being arranged at the inn is between two sets of twins.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Mick is not nearly as odd as Kirk. Luke is more environmentalist than he'll ever be. Emily looks older than in later seasons.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: Rory mentions wanting to change her hair, but it's Lorelai who ties her hair up in a bun when she is getting stricter with Rory, but comes to her "cool mom" senses with her hair down.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Rory tells Richard about her and Lorelai's plans to backpack through Europe after graduation.
    • Jackson treats Sookie looking at other people's vegetables as cheating.

  • Green-Eyed Monster: Lorelai is jealous that Emily and Richard like Rory better than her.
  • Hiding Behind the Language Barrier: Michel asks Lorelai to come settle an argument between two guests because he is "running out of French curse words that they won't understand."
  • Hypocrite:
    • Emily points out that Lorelai seems a bit controlling trying to get Rory out of going to the club with Richard.
    • Drella's talk about how the music drives her and she'll play what she feels goes away when offered $100 to be a jukebox. Might just be clever bargaining.
  • Identical Twin Mistake: Sookie wonders if it would be cheating if one of the identical-twin grooms mistook his sister-in-law for his wife, and she in turn mistook him for her husband, and they had sex believing they were with their own spouse.
  • Informed Flaw: A perfectly nice lady is repeatedly referred to as "the most odious woman alive" on the golf course.
  • Irony: Chilton considers golf a team sport.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Emily points out that perhaps Lorelai is as manipulative and controlling as she accuses Emily of being.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Spoiled Brat: The mother of the brides considers her daughters to be this.
  • Take That!: Michel can't understand why anyone would freely admit to being Lorelai's father.
  • Those Two Guys: Ed and Ed, two old guys at Richard's club.
  • Would Rather Suffer: The things Lorelai would rather do than go to the club with Rory include sliding down a bannister of razor blades and landing in a pool of alcohol, and cutting off her own head to use it as a punch bowl.
