Go To

"Is It True About Stephanie?" is an episode of season seven of Full House.

When Stephanie asks out a boy Gia was going to ask first, Gia spreads a rumor about her. Meanwhile, Danny, upset over missing Vicky, decides to rearrange everything in the house, and Joey manages to get a woman to meet him at the Smash Club, only for the meeting to go awry there.

Tropes:

  • Beard of Sorrow: Part of Danny's way of coping with losing Vicky is to try to grow his beard out. That being said, the passage of time isn't long, as Mickey wrongly identifies Danny's mustache as soy sauce on his face upon meeting him while the Tanner family is having sushi.
  • Did You Think I Can't Feel?: Gia spreads a nasty rumor about Stephanie, prompting her and Mickey to get revenge by stealing a copy of Gia's terrible report card, making a gigantic version of it, and posting it in the school hallway for all to see. Gia storms by the display at first, but when Stephanie comes over to gloat, she turns around and reveals that she is silently crying.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Gia spreads a rumor about Stephanie all because she asks out a boy Gia likes.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Stephanie posts Gia's grades as revenge. But unfortunately, it doesn't make her feel good.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Michelle doesn't react well when she finds out she's eating squid.
  • Exact Words: During the Tanner family dinnertime with sushi being the meal of choice, Michelle tries one sushi piece and expresses hope that she's not having raw fish. She's actually eating squid.
  • Language Barrier: The reason Poor Communication Kills for Joey in this episode. After a French woman agrees to his invitation to meet at the Smash Club and claims she would bring "Marie" along, Joey assumes she would bring a woman named "Marie" with her. The problem? "Marie" is French for "husband", which means she's actually bringing her husband to the Smash Club, and Joey doesn't find out the truth due to not knowing French. By the time he realizes it courtesy of Kimmy explaining to him, it's already too late.
Kimmy: "Marie" is "husband" in French. Even I knew that, and I got a D in my French class.
  • Long List: The woman Joey thought he'd be on a date with hands her wallet to him late in the episode, in which she keeps her offspring's pictures. Joey takes it... and a section of the wallet unfolds itself, revealing that the woman and her husband have many children, leaving Joey more dismayed than he already is, all while the woman and her husband passionately make out to each other.
Joey: [trying to speak to the woman and her husband over the background music] Keep it up, and you'll need a bigger wallet!
  • Malicious Slander: Gia's Disproportionate Retribution against Stephanie over her asking out a boy Gia likes is via spreading a nasty rumor about Stephanie.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Played for Laughs. The episode begins with Joey excitedly telling Rebecca that he's meeting a French woman at the Smash Club and the woman is bringing another one named "Marie". Unfortunately for him, it turns out "Marie" is not a woman's name but actually "husband" in French, which Joey doesn't find out until after the fact, by which point the woman in question is joined by her husband, and Joey's subplot ends with him feeling disappointed at this turn of events.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: Joey spends much of the episode happily anticipating going on a date with a woman and "Marie", whom the woman in question said she'd bring over. Too bad for Joey that he doesn't discover until near the end of the episode that "marie" is French for "husband", well after the fact, and so he spends the entire time with only the woman's Long List of her children's photos to keep himself busy while she and her husband passionately make out at the Smash Club.
  • Smelly Feet Gag: Upon hearing Stephanie deciding to hatch a revenge plot against Gia's Malicious Slander, Kimmy offers her spare shoes to aid Stephanie, only for D.J. to shoot the idea down at once.
D.J.: Kimmy, she wants to humiliate her, not kill her.
  • Spit Take: Michelle's reaction to being told she's eating squid is to spit it back out of her mouth.
