Go To

"Smash Club The Next Generation" is an episode in the seventh season of Full House.

When the owner of the Smash Club passes away, Jesse discovers he inherited the building from him.

Tropes:

  • Cheerful Funeral: The episode starts with the Tanner family members discussing over the funeral of the previous Smash Club owner, with some of them claiming to feel guilty for having fun in a funeral, though, as Jesse states, the deceased owner intended for his funeral to be joyous.
  • Eek, a Mouse!!: Played with. Joey freaks out when he sees something under the counter that he believes to be a rat, causing him to burst through the counter table (and get stuck as the result) in sheer fright. He calms down after Jesse shows what caused Joey's fright: a filthy bar rag.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Jesse's conversation with D.J., Stephanie, Kimmy, and Steve, who lament to him about their boredom due to having nothing to do and nowhere to go for fun ends up spurring him to get the Smash Club reopened as a Local Hangout for minors.
  • Exact Eavesdropping: The rest of the family try to eavesdrop on Jesse and Elenor's conversation. During Jesse's speech they are exposed with them giving awkward hand waves and smiles.
  • Identical Stranger: The portrait of the deceased Smash Club owner hanging in the Smash Club interior shows that the late owner looked a lot like Joey.
  • Inadequate Inheritor: After seeing the state the Smash Club is in and discovering that Jesse is not familiar with the building codes, Elenor denies a loan at first. But she changes her tune when she hears Jesse's reason for reopening the Smash Club.
  • "Oh, Crap!" Smile: The family gives some when they are exposed for snooping on Jesse and Elenor's conversation.
  • On One Condition: If Jesse doesn't reopen the Smash Club, the ownership will revert to the state and the building will be turned into a parking lot.
  • Skewed Priorities: Upon realizing that he had mistaken a bar rag for a rat, Joey reacts by telling Jesse that he should use it to wipe off a nearby smudge. Jesse, who's in a bad mood due to having to handle the messy Smash Club interior cleanup before a city inspector enters the place, promptly smacks Joey's head with the bar rag in sheer irritation.
  • The Triple:
    • As Jesse reminisces about his memories with the Smash Club while the owner was alive, he brings up some bands as examples of musicians who kept the music going for his generation, citing three examples: Jefferson Airplane, The Mamas & the Papas, and Sonny & Cher. Of the three that Jesse mentions, D.J., Stephanie, Kimmy, and Steve have only heard of Sonny & Cher, and, even then, it's only because Cher has made appearances in infomercials they happen to have seen.
    • While trying to clean up the derelict Smash Club interior before a city inspector shows up, Jesse instructs Joey to look under the counter for anything that might help the cleaning process. Joey does so and finds a corkscrew, a bucket, and a bar rag... that he mistakes for a rat until Jesse holds it in front of his face.
