Recap / Friends S 5 E 24 The One In Vegas Part Two

Go To

Rachel and Ross hole up in their hotel room since the doodles on Rachel's face won't come off. Chandler and Monica make up and decide to get married in Vegas after betting it on a dice game. Joey tries to convince a casino employee that he's his hand twin and that they could make money off it. Phoebe butts heads with an elderly woman who takes over machines abandoned by Phoebe and lands jackpots on them.

Tropes:

  • Accidental Marriage: Rachel and Ross get raging drunk out of boredom from staying in the hotel room all the time. One thing leads to another and they end up married at the end of the episode, still in a clearly inebriated state.
  • Actor Allusion: When Phoebe claims to be a "woman in town on business", Lisa Kudrow is using the same lines as her character on Romy and Michele's High School Reunion.
  • But Liquor Is Quicker: Invoked by Joey to see exactly how drunk Rachel is. He forbids her from drinking more upon her flirting back.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: On seeing how drunk Ross and Rachel are Joey tries his "How you doin'?" on Rachel. When she flirts back he immediately tells Ross not to let her drink anymore.
  • Face Doodling: Rachel is only willing to get out of the room with the irremovable doodles on her face if Ross accepts his face getting doodled on too. He does (they are both extremely drunk at the time).
  • Get a Room!: When Chandler and Monica start kissing after making up Phoebe tells them to get a room.
Monica: We already have a room.
    Phoebe: I know, use it.
  • Go-to Alias: Phoebe uses "Regina Phalange" while on the casino floor.
  • Heads, Tails, Edge: One of the dice for Monica's "do we get married" throw bounces off the table and lands on the floor. It's propped against the table leg so the edge between 4 and 5 is pointing up. Monica lets Chandler decide the result, and he chooses the 4 they need.
  • Lohengrin and Mendelssohn: Chandler attempts to sing a few bars of the wedding march as he and Monica wait for their turn to get married. Monica tells him he's actually singing "Pomp and Circumstance" a.k.a the Graduation Song. The actual wedding march starts playing shortly afterwards as Ross and Rachel exit the chapel.
  • Old, New, Borrowed and Blue: Monica and Chandler scramble to find all four before they head to the chapel. Old is a condom Chandler's had in his wallet for years while the other three are covered by the New Blue sweatshirt that they "Borrow" from the Caesar's Palace giftshop.
  • Pillow Pregnancy: Monica shoves a sweatshirt under her dress and spends a few seconds cooing over how it makes her look pregnant.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Phoebe vs. the Old Lady Lurker who keeps stealing her jackpots.
  • Viva Las Vegas!: The gang's adventures in Las Vegas continue.
  • Wham Shot: Monica and Chandler have finally gotten the nerve to go to a wedding chapel and get married. They are about to go in when who should stumble out but...
Ross: [drunk] Well, hello, Mrs. Ross! [tosses confetti]
Rachel: [also drunk] Well, hello, Mr. Rachel! [tosses confetti]
