Chandler and Monica to await the arrival of their adopted baby, but are in for a surprise. Meanwhile, Ross tries to explain his feelings for Rachel.
- Delayed Reaction: It takes Joey a fair bit of time to catch up with the rest of the friends that the "surprise" Monica and Chandler have is that they are now the parents of twins... even though both of them are holding a separate baby.
- Dog Got Sent to a Farm: Joey mentions that Chandler told him the chick and duck were sent away to a farm.
- Family Eye Resemblance: Upon seeing their son immediately after his birth, Chandler says that the boy has Monica's eyes, even as he acknowledges that such a thing should be impossible as Monica isn't the boy's biological mother.
- Hereditary Twinhood: Erica, the woman whose baby Chandler and Monica are set to adopt, goes into labour. The three of them are shocked during the birth to discover that it's twins, and as they discuss it, Erica notes that, "Twins actually run in my family!"
- Just Friends: Gunther finally tells Rachel he loves her; She responds, "I love you too... probably not in the same way, but I do" and gives him a kiss on the cheek.
- Last-Minute Baby Naming: Chandler and Monica decide to name the girl of their twins after Erica, their birth mother. The boy gets named Jack for Monica's dad.
- Love Confession: Gunther finally takes a shot and tells Rachel that he loves her. Rachel gently turns him down but tells him she loves him too if not in the same way.
- Love Revelation Epiphany: Granted, Ross and Rachel have known how they feel about each other for years, but faced with the possibility of ending their on-off relationship for good with Rachel's current move to Paris, Ross finally accepts that he just wants to be with her.
- My Beloved Smother: Monica tells the newborn Jack that she's going to be this to him."I'm going to love you so much no woman is ever going to be good enough for you."
- Running Gagged: After years of Cannot Spit It Out, Gunther finally makes his feelings known to Rachel.
- Surprise Multiple Birth: Chandler and Monica are shocked when, after Erica delivers a boy, there's still another baby to deliver because she's been carrying twins. Turns out the doctors knew there were twins all along, but Erica misinterpreted the references to two heartbeats as referring to her own heart and the baby's.
- Two Halves Make a Plot: Referenced when Chandler suggests splitting up Erica's twins, giving each half a medallion for when they eventually meet again.
- Unto Us a Son and Daughter Are Born: Chandler and Monica's twins are a boy and a girl.Chandler: Well now we have one of each! (to the doctor) And that's enough!
- Wham Line: "The other one will be along in a minute."
- What Happened to the Mouse?: We finally find out what happened to the chick and the duck since they were last seen a few seasons ago (both were last seen in "The One With Mac & C.H.E.E.S.E." and the duck was mentioned being sick in "The One With Rachel's Book"): they died.
