When Jessica refuses to let Eddie participate in a student exchange trip to Taiwan because of his immaturity, Eddie tries to prove himself by moving in with Horace Lee in his new apartment. Louis and Evan suspect that Emery is Living a Double Life.
- Book Ends: The episode starts with Eddie playing a Bland-Name Product version of The Sims, and ends with him teaching Jessica how to play as an outlet for her need to micromanage everyone after she approves his trip to Taiwan.
- It's All About Me: After learning that Eddie's vastly better at living independently than Horace, whose own mom is far more lenient, Jessica uses it as justification for how strict she's always been.
- Living a Double Life: Emery's been sneaking away from sports practice to line dance at a nearby Western club, because he wasn't enjoying the sport but Louis was overly eager to try bonding with him over it.
- That Came Out Wrong: After realizing how independent Eddie's becoming, Jessica decides to claim some credit, as she "pushed him out"...and then quickly has to clarify that she meant out of a metaphorical nest, and not the process of giving birth.
- Wish-Fulfillment: In The Tag, Jessica has turned her file of The Sims-ish game into one of these, getting pampered by her children while her husband does all the work, and sticking Grandma in a Retirement Home.
