The Lobe traps Freakazoid and Cosgrove in a virtual reality video game while the characters they were playing as wreak havoc in the real world. While in the video game, Freakazoid and Cosgrove work to maneuver through and escape it while avoiding a Pterodactyl.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Actor Allusion: A villain character voiced by David Warner trapping the hero in a computer world. Where have we seen this before?
  • Aerith and Bob: The main video game characters are named Portho and Mel.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: The Lobe does this when gloating.
Lobe: Now, Freakazoid and Cosgrove are trapped in the game, Portho and Mel are out here, and I'm off to buy a couch!
  • Badass Adorable: After they're done at the mall, Cosgrove suggests going to see Babeheart, the story of a cute little pig that slaughters the English.
Steff: This sure is a gory movie.
Cosgrove: Yeah, but that's one mighty cute pig.
Freakazoid: I hope he receives some kind of cute pig award.
  • Continuity Nod: When the Lobe is fishing for compliments about his new hat, Steff says she remembers the time he kidnapped and tied her to a rocket and threatens to give him a fat lip if he ever tries that again.
  • Hope Spot: While Steff fiddles with the equipment, Freakazoid reappears on the platform, only to immediately vanish again.
  • Indy Ploy: The Lobe was only doing mundane shopping at the mall, but spur of the moment, he took advantage of Freakazoid and Cosgrove being connected to a virtual reality game.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: The Lobe trapped Freakazoid and Cosgrove in the game, so Freakazoid ensures the same thing happens to him.
  • Musicalis Interruptus: Stuck in the game, Freakazoid sings "Am I Blue?", only to get grabbed by Dino the Pterodactyl during a verse.
  • Self-Deprecation: Though Dino the Pterodactyl has let go of them, it takes Freakazoid and the Lobe a while to land, and they have this off-screen conversation.
Lobe: Freakazoid, why is it taking us so long to fall?
    Freakazoid: 'Cause it's funny!
Lobe: No, it's not! It's just stupid! It's as dumb as that Handman episode!
  • The Stinger: "Ha. That's funny."
  • Trapped in TV Land: Lobe sends Freakazoid and Cosgrove into a virtual reality game while bringing in the character they were controlling into the real world.
  • Villains Out Shopping: The Lobe was initially at the mall to buy a hat in his size (at Big Wide Hats). He's actually quite touchy about it when talking to Freakazoid about it.
  • Waxing Lyrical: Albeit changing a word, once Lobe tries his hat he asks "Tell me Stef. Is every woman crazy about a sharp dressed man?"

"Ha. That's funny."

The Story of a Freakazoid Sign

Joe Leahy, the announcer in Freakazoid! tells a story about a building next to a Freakazoid! sign. The scene repeats itself and each repeat shows the building in a growing state of despair until the sign is knocked down by ghost and King Kong is rampaging in the background. However, the network censor has rejected this sequence due to being too scary and request that all the scary stuff be taken out, much to the disgruntlement of the announcer who gets into an argument with the censor for taking out all the interesting stuff.

How well does it match the trope?
