Recap / Frasier S 10 E 22 Fathers And Sons

Go To

Niles and Daphne attempt to come up with a name for their future child to put on an application for a prestigious kindergarten, while Leland, Hester’s old research assistant and close friend, visits town. Leland ends up having vastly more in common with the Crane brothers than Martin does, much to the latter’s concern.

Examples:

  • Mama's Baby, Papa's Maybe: The whole point of the episode. Martin is unsure whether he really is Fras and Niles's father given they share so many traits with Leland, to the extent even Eddie gets confused as to who he's supposed to stare at, while having pretty much nothing in common with him. Not helping Martin's insecurity is the knowledge Hester did cheat on him at least once before, meaning it's not out of the question she did so again.
  • Mood Whiplash: The ending has Martin and Leland amicably parting ways with the situation resolved. He returns to the apartment, and... begins sulking at the sight of Frasier and Niles being themselves, forced to deal with the fact that, yes, they are his sons. Whether he likes it or not.
  • Not Helping Your Case: This line of dialogue when Martin talks to Roz about the possibility of Leland being Frasier and Niles's biological father and Roz lists some flaws they and Martin share, which Martin exhibits while denying.
    Roz: Their stubbornness.
    Martin: I'm not stubborn.
    Roz: Their defensiveness.
Martin: What's that supposed to mean?
Roz: The way they completely dismiss anyone who doesn't share their opinion.
Martin: Oh, now you're just being dumb.
  • Special Guest: David Ogden Stiers as Dr. Leland Barton
  • Wham Line: Leland revealing he is gay, which Hester knew and kept secret for him.
