Recap / Frasier S 04 E 15 Rozs Krants And Gouldenstein Are Dead

Go To

Roz has to do community service at a retirement home where she gets the nickname 'The Angel of Death' on account of how the elders she's assigned to dies while Frasier meets an elderly fan of his but accidentally destroys a prized possession said fan is carrying.

Tropes:

  • Cool Old Guy: Norman is a charming older man who isn't upset when Frasier breaks the life mask of his late wife because he's broken it multiple times himself.
  • Dirty Old Woman: The woman Roz talks with at the retirement home managed to hack the computers and rewrite the schedules so her sponge baths are done by an attractive young man.
  • Hated by All: Roz gains the ire of the people at the retirement home when the elders she is with repeatedly die.
  • Idiot Ball: Frasier, it doesn't take a genius to tell you not to mess around with a blind man's mask of his late wife or else the inevitability of you breaking it will happen.
  • I Have This Friend: Overhearing Roz complaining about one of her elderly charges dying on her, Bulldog thinks she's talking about something else, and complains about the woman always blaming the man, who shouldn't have to imbibe so much liquor before "the moment of truth arrives..." When Frasier sets him straight:
Bulldog: Oh, well... when I said "we", I didn't mean me, because I don't have that... [Frasier and Roz just wait.] Hey, you're a doctor, that was confidential!
  • Innocent Innuendo: A minor running gag in this episode is men overhearing Roz telling Frasier how people keep literally dying on her, assuming she's talking about something else and offering Suspiciously Specific Denials about it.
Roz: One minute he's lying in bed, smiling and happy, and ten seconds later it's over.
Niles: Oh for heaven's sake, it happens to every man a couple of times in his life! Why can't you women take it as a compliment?
  • Nice Guy: Norman Royster is such a polite gentleman.
  • Red Baron: Thanks to Roz's bad habit of having people die on her, she becomes known as "The Angel of Death".
Norman: Ah, the Angel of Death. Nice gal.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: Frasier's efforts to secretly fix the life mask of Norman's late wife turn out to be this when, in a fit of conscience, he ends up shamefully admitting what he's done... and Norman makes it clear that he needn't have worried about doing so, as he mildly comments that he's broken the mask multiple times himself: "I am blind, you know."
  • Shout-Out: The episode's title is a play on Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.
  • Special Guest: James Earl Jones as Norman Royster the blind elder.
