Shokugeki no Soma OVA 2: Natsuyumi

Natsuyumi is the 2nd OVA episode for the anime series Food Wars!. The story follows the students during their summer vacations before the Autumn Election.
This episode provides examples of:
- Adaptation Expansion: While the plot focuses on Erina and Alice's visit to the public pool and the Polaris Girls trying to cool off, the anime also adds new scenes with the rest of the dormitory, the Aldini brothers and the Shiomi seminar. Also Nao has been stalking Erina during her trip to the pool.
- Beach Episode: The stories take place during the first Summer Vacation. Erina, Alice and Ryou venture into the public pool, while the Polaris residents (with the Aldinis and Ikumi) go to a lake within the Tootsuki area.
- Brain Freeze: The boys intended to have a competition on who ate faster a big bowl of shaved ice. To their surprise, they didn't have Brain Freeze because of the quality of the shaving machine.
- Butt-Monkey:
- Yuuki gets a bright pink sunburn all over her body and all her attempts to cool off with the girls end up failing.
- Takumi is once again ignored by Soma during his attempts to declare his rivalry. Then Soma abandons the Shaved Ice competition he was having with Takumi, which causes him to get cold.
- Continuity Nod: The characters mention that they are spending their vacations to prepare for the Autumn Election. Also Nao is still stalking Erina instead of Hisako and Isami is still chubby.
- Evolving Credits: In the opening Rising Rainbow, Megumi this time has a bikini instead of her gardening dress, and instead of vegetables, she is surrounded by bubbles and water drops.
- Embarrassingly Painful Sunburn: Downplayed with Yuuki. Unlike the manga (and for comedy), Yuuki gets bright pink for taking too much sun. By the time they go to the lake, she is normal again.
- Heat Wave: The most affected by the summer heat are the Polaris girls and Jun. To remedy this situation, the Polaris residents and the Aldini brothers take a short trip to a lake in the school area, while Akira gives Jun a special beverage made of yoghurt, cardamom and other spices to get her cool again.
- Impossibly Delicious Food: Soma makes Ikumi taste a special Shaved Ice with homemade strawberry syrup and condensed milk. The taste is so good that she feels like riding a giant strawberry through a condensed milk wave.
- Know-Nothing Know-It-All: Alice spends the day making fun of Erina and one of the subjects involve teasing her lack of romantic experience, compairing it to hers. Ryou notes to himself that all her "experience" comes from Romantic comedies, and she even fell asleep in the middle of them.
- Male Gaze: Most of the girls end up wearing a swimsuit during the episode.
- Alice and Erina wore bikinis to the pool and a lot of the focus goes to the buxom and Erina adjusting the bottom.
- While Ryoko is the most notable, Megumi and Yuuki also wear two piece swimsuits.
- Kanachi comments on Ikumi's light clothing while cooking.
- Pragmatic Adaptation: The omake with Ikumi tasting Soma's shaved ice is blended with the subplot with the Polaris guys chilling at the lake.
- Reluctant Fanservice Girl: Erina is very shy about showing skin in public. She accepted Alice's suggestion to use a poncho to change clothes covered (right before Alice started to make fun of her). Then she awkwardly takes off her hoodie to reveal the bikini.
- Tsundere: Ikumi as usual. The moment Soma invited her and the other guys, she declined, claiming that she was very busy. She later joined them because "Kanachi sent her".
