For faculties failure requires sense anew.

Cade reunites with his old criminal team to steal Gua technology. On entering the building, the gang find themselves moving through a series of rooms that have a variety of weird and sometimes fatal effects.

Tropes:

  • Dark and Troubled Past: When Cade joins a group that includes both his ex and his former best friend, you know we're learning about his past, and this episode doesn't disappoint.
    • Harlie is Cade's ex. He ended it before splitting off from the gang, apparently because they were catastrophically bad for each other.
    • The gang used to do robberies together, until something went wrong and Richie hung Cade out to dry. This resulted in Cade going to prison and destroyed their friendship.
    • Cade met Hannah because she was the daughter of his parole officer.
  • Driven to Suicide: The effect of one of the rooms, which forces people to obsess over My Greatest Failure, and is just packed with ways for them to kill themselves. Cade's former friend Richie succumbs to this room, killing himself out of guilt for leaving Cade to be arrested, and Cade narrowly escapes himself.
  • Getting Smilies Painted on Your Soul: One room is covered with painted smilies, and makes people feel giddy and hysterical. It's unbelievably creepy.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Harlie is both leader Decks' ex, and Cade's. He is very hostile to Cade as a result, evidently believing she dumped him for Cade.
  • Rage Breaking Point: One room induces this in its occupants. Cade and Richie scream abuse at each other over Richie leaving Cade to be arrested years ago, then Richie storms off. Cade and Harlie end up in the room of smilies before finding Richie in the suicide room, where he dies.
  • The One That Got Away: Cade appears to be this to Harlie. He broke up with her an unknown number of years ago because "We were gonna destroy each other." She's very dismissive of his dead wife until he calls her on it.
  • Your Mind Makes It Real: Everything that happens in the episode turns out to be a Gua simulation. Both Decks and Richie die in the simulation, and Cade and Harlie wake up to find them dead.
