Go To

Safe with Sam is the 5th episode in Series 2 of Fireman Sam.

The fire station is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Tropes:

  • An Aesop: The episode is primarily about various ways to prevent fires from breaking out, these being how to handle fireworks safely, the benefits of having a working smoke alarm, keeping toys away from heaters, guarding fireplaces, not playing with matches, having a proper escape plan, getting out and staying out, and keeping pets indoors away from fireworks.
  • Bilingual Bonus: Paying close attention to signs and boxes around Pontypandy reveals that they have both English and Welsh text on them, a nod to the series being set in Wales.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: The episode ends with Sam directly addressing the audience, reminding them to be safe with fireworks, and bidding them farewell before the credits roll.
  • Idiot Ball: Elvis temporarily becomes much more reckless around the fireworks for the sake of the aesop.
  • Lost Toy Grievance: During the practice fire escape, Sarah realizes she left Cuddles, her teddy bear, inside the cafe. Sam prevents her from going back for it, teaching her that she should never go back into a burning building once she's out, and Sarah looks upset about it. Later, once everyone is back inside the cafe, Sarah has Cuddles sitting in her lap, and when the smoke alarm goes off for real, she brings him along with her.
  • invokedMilestone Celebration: The episode focuses on the anniversary of the Pontypandy Fire Station opening.
