We play through the Elements saga of Adventure Time! Andy loses himself! Pitr finds himself! Jon embraces his inner Cthulhu!

Episode 73 of Film Reroll. Based on the Elements miniseries from the Adventure Time cartoon.

The land of Ooo is in a crisis. A magic spell gone awry has caused the Benevolent Mage Rulers to be consumed by one of the four elements and transform their kingdoms into apocalyptic lands subjected to The Corruption. Now our heroes Finn and Jake have to team up with their old enemy The Ice King — who has started to revert to his pre-Loss of Identity state and regain his old memories — and try to find a way to save and restore their beloved world.

Starring Andy Hoover as Finn the human, Jon Miller as Jake the dog, Kara Straitnote  as the Ice King, and Paulo Quiros as the Dungeon Master.

Followed by Blade Runner.

Tropes:

  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Princess Bubblegum has become The Assimilator, Patience has taken over the Ice King's castle and imprisoned Betty, the Flame Princess has turned into a monstrous dragon, and the slime princess has grown into a giant and is... throwing an awesome party?
  • Brought Down to Normal: Patience St. Pim becomes a normal, powerless human after Simon takes her elemental powers.
  • Call-Back: Kara points out that it's been a long time since she last played a monarch with ice powers.
  • Carnivore Confusion: The candy versions of Lemongrab and Marceline are both perfectly fine with Jake eating them. Though it's shows that they're not actually being digested and just kind of stored in an internal pocket space of his.
  • Chased by Angry Natives: Our protagonists' first visit to the Fire Kingdom quickly turns into this, with fire demons!
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Kara is initially cast as the Robot Buddy Beemo, but they are basically phased out once the Ice King enters the story. Ultimately, the episode description only credits her as portraying the latter.
  • Dying as Yourself: A case where the death itself was entirely preventable. The Flame Princess regains her voice right before she's slayed by Finn, but he doesn't register it.
  • Enemy Mine: Finn and Jake teaming up with Ice King is initially a case of this, before the latter's Heel–Face Turn.
  • Exact Words: "I want you to support me as keeper of the gems." As it turns out, Finn is not handing over the position to Jake, but rather claiming it for himself.
  • Fighting Your Friend: Finn versus Phoebe the Flame Princess turned dragon, Jake versus Princess Bubblegum turned giant, and Jake versus his friend Finn turned evil.
  • Fisher King: Much like in the show, the various elemental rulers being this for their respective kingdoms becomes an important plot point.
  • "Flowers for Algernon" Syndrome: The Ice King asks Prismo to make him the Ice Elemental, stealing Patience St. Pim's powers and reclaiming his memories, sanity and original name in the process. However, these effects remain throughout the story, and it's indicated that he goes on to become a much better ruler than Patience was.
  • Forced Transformation:
    • The citizens of both the Candy Kingdom and the Fire Kingdom has had this happen to them. The former having turned into living candy, and the latter into demonic, feral flame creatures.
    • This also applies to their leaders, who have grown giant and become living representations of the worst attributes of their nations.
    • Finn is also subjected to this. His candy transformation goes away pretty quickly, but his fiery form remains and has a huge impact on the story.
  • Gotta Catch Them All: To end the curse, our heroes have to collect the four elemental crystals, which are in the crowns of the four monarchs.
  • Killed Off for Real:
    • Patience St. Pim is cut to pieces by Betty as payment for what she did to her, Simon and the entire land.
    • More tragically, Finn kills Princess Phoebe after she transforms into a dragon "offscreen", believing that the dragon ate her.
    • Apparently not the case with Princess Bubblegum and the Slime Princess. Their bodies seem to have been pretty thoroughly destroyed, but they are apparently able to reform them, being elementals and all.
  • Mr. Exposition: Ice King tries to be this early on, but is too much of a Talkative Loon to get much useful information across.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Simon has a subdued one after he regains his sanity. He doesn't angst too much over what he did as the Ice King, but he makes it his mission to become a better person going forward.
    • Finn after he finally overcomes the rage fire and realizes what he did while under its influence.
  • Patchwork Map: The land has turned into this, with each one of the four regions devoted entirely to one of four elements.
  • Perfectly Cromulent Word: "Obsturbing", a conbination of the words "obviously" and "disturbing."
  • The Power of Hate:
    • The Fire Kingdom has been completely consumed by this, almost to the point of being Always Chaotic Evil. Before they attack our heroes, they are shown to be busy fighting amongst themselves.
    • Finn himself is also affected by this power, with terrible consequences.
  • Redemption Rejection: Simon offers Patience St. Pim the chance to end her plot and help him undo the chaos she has caused. She responds with a Shut Up, Kirk!, sealing both her villainous status and her own fate.
  • Wizard Duel: The climax features one between the redeemed Simon and the Brainwashed and Crazy Princess Bubblegum.
