Nick: Give them permission to run.
Alejandro: Where will they run to?
Nick: North.

In the community, Alejandro refuses to back down and orders the community members to prepare to defend their homes against the bandits. Not wanting to get caught in the fighting, Nick quietly leaves the community, and notices a helicopter landing at a town on the American side of the border. He returns to the community to convince Alejandro to evacuate the community.

The next day, when Marco and his bandits arrive, they find the community seemingly abandoned. However, unknown to them, a terminally ill Alejandro breaks open the community's improvised gate, allowing the infected to enter and forcing Marco and his men to flee. Nick and Luciana lead their group out of the colony and towards the border.

At the hotel, Oscar suffers a severe head injury due to Travis and is taken to be treated. Since Travis violated the rule of no violence against other survivors, Strand warns Madison that Travis must be exiled in order to maintain the unity of the hotel survivors. Madison is reluctant to have Travis exiled but ultimately agrees to go with him the next morning while Strand refuses to have anything to do with it.

Meanwhile, despite everybody's best efforts, Oscar dies from his head injury. Enraged, several of the hotel survivors break into Travis' room and attack him, forcing Alicia to kill one of them to save his life. Travis, Madison, and Alicia are forced to flee the hotel while Strand decides to stay behind after intervening to help them escape.

They return to the bandits' supermarket and find the entire building abandoned, and Alicia questions Madison's motives when she starts searching bodies of Francisco and his family for clues to find Nick. They arrive at the community and find that Marco and his men have been killed by the infected.

Alicia finds a dying Alejandro, and his last words instruct them to look for Nick at the border. Meanwhile, as Nick and Luciana lead their group across the border, they catch sight of the helicopter again before they are suddenly attacked by another armed group. The survivors flee, but Nick and Luciana are captured.

Tropes:

  • Accidental Murder: It's revealed that during Travis' savage beatdown of Brandon and Derek, he killed Oscar by slamming a door on his head.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Marco's group is taken down due to Alejandro staying behind and luring walkers towards them. This allows him to tell Madision, Travis and Alicia about where Nick is headed. Speaking of these three people, they are also reunited as a family after having been split up for half a season. However, this reunion came with devastating costs. Chris died, Travis lost his idealism, Alicia murdered a human for the first time, and Strand stayed behind at the hotel. And for Nick, he failed to get the El Pouvenir group across the border, since soldiers shot at them, wounding Luciana in the process. Because of this, Luciana and Nick have been kidnapped by the soldiers.
  • Hope Spot: With Alejandro having taken care of Marco's group, Nick and Luciana are leading their group towards the border, seemingly hassle-free. The two even view the faraway helicopter with binoculars to confirm that they will reach a safe zone. Unfortunately, the moment they step foot onto the border, armed soldiers begin firing on everyone, wounding Luciana and causing the other citizens to flee.
  • I Choose to Stay: While Strand helps Madison, Travis and Alicia leave the hotel, he refuses to go with them.
  • Idiot Ball: After Marco and his group get inside El Pouvenir, they gleefully celebrate by firing their rifles in the air. Without any hesitation, or checks, or consideration that this was exactly what the good guys wanted. Which comes true, and costs them their lives.
  • Rousing Speech: Alejandro gives one to his group, to prepare them for the arrival of Marco and his cronies.
"My dear brothers and sisters. You cannot know how happy I am to see you once more. The rumors you have heard... are true. They are coming... the men with guns... we believe tonight. They are coming to kill us... to banish us... and our brothers and sisters. It is the evil of man that stalks us. That same evil of which the world is purging itself. But now... more than ever... we must not fear. Now, more than ever... our faith will hold us. This is not the end... nor will it be. We will not die today. Not today, and not tomorrow. Another destiny awaits us. Glory is ours! We are immune to death! We will overcome this evil! We will defend our home! And we will survive together in El Pouvenir! Because what we have is more powerful than weapons or evil! We have our faith... and we have each other. Prepare yourself. The time has come to defend what is ours."
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When soldiers shoot at Nick's and Luciana's group, the latter immediately run for their lives.
  • Thousand-Yard Stare: The beginning of the episode reveals that Travis has fallen into this state, after his No-Holds-Barred Beatdown on Brandon and Derek in the previous episode.
  • Trapped-with-Monster Plot: What Alejandro does to Marco's group. He waits until that group enters his community, and then drives a bus forward, which opens up the area that contained the army of walkers.
