What if a sequel to Super Mario Bros. (1993) was made?
This Fanscription contains examples of:
- Adaptational Early Appearance: Waluigi didn't first appear in the games until 2000's Mario Tennis. Here, he appears in a sequel that would hypothetically have been made in The '90s.
- Ascended Extra: Daniella plays a bigger role in the first chunk of the movie than she did in the original. Unfortunately, Wart drops her in a warp pipe when Peach refuses to tell him the secrets of the Stone.
- Bittersweet Ending: King Wart is defeated and Peach's kingdom is restored to its former glory, but Mario is still depressed over Daniella's (apparent) death. After talking to Peach about his depression in a dream, Mario leaves reality for the Dream World, with Luigi giving him a sad smile as he watches him go. In the alternate ending, however...
- Call-Back: When Wario and Waluigi reveal their names to the heroes, a bemused Luigi asks what their last names are, in a reference to the previous film's infamous Who's on First? gag.
- Comic-Book Fantasy Casting:
- Jessica Lange as Princess Peach
- Michael Clarke Duncan as King Wart
- Danny DeVito as Wario
- David Faustino as Waluigi
- Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: King Wart and King Koopa are as different as night and day. Koopa was a largely comedic and highly expressive villain in contrast to Wart's more intimidating and understated performance. Koopa was a Corrupt Corporate Executive who ruled over a Cyberpunk setting, while Wart's domain is more of a straightforward fantasy setting. Finally, Koopa was a white man in a black suit while Wart is a black man in a white suit.
- Mood Whiplash: The alternate ending, which Doug hates due to clashing with the first ending's tone.
- One-Winged Angel: King Wart turns into a large frog-like monster for the final battle, and unlike King Koopa, puts up a considerable fight while using it.
- Sequel Hook: The alternate ending continues from where the Bittersweet Ending mentioned above stops. Mario and Peach meet back up and have an Almost Kiss, only for a Warp Pipe to pop up out of the ground and spit out Daniella and Peach's father who are just as shocked to see Mario and Peach as vice-versa. Mario notices they're both wearing wedding rings while Daniella tries to assure him that it's Not What It Looks Like.
- Took a Level in Badass: When Yoshi reappears, he's turned into a Green T. Rex big enough for two people to ride on.Daisy: You didn't think he was fully grown last time, did you?Luigi: I had a lot of questions the last time I was here. That wasn't one of 'em.
- Vile Villain, Laughable Lackey: Wario and Waluigi, while perfectly dangerous in their own right, are much more quirky and bombastic than their grim boss, King Wart.
