Recap / Family Guy S 17 E 3 Pal Stewie

Go To

When Stewie makes a new friend, he leaves behind his matricidal attempts to keep him around. Elsewhere, Peter's car becomes possessed by the ghost of self-help guru Tony Robbins.

  • Ax-Crazy: Stewie returns to levels of crazy not seen in several seasons.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Stewie attacks Hudson's party because he didn't get an invite.
  • Drive-Thru Antics: Peter gets a triple-bacon burger at a drive-thru with less bacon than he paid for, so Tony Robbins (who got struck by lightning and is now possessing Peter's car) advises him to stand up for himself and demand more bacon.
  • Forgot Flanders Could Do That: Stewie returns to trying to kill Lois and being a vicious badass. He even reuses his old "Victory is mine" catchphrase, which is lampshaded by a father watching the episode.
Father: Ha. That's what the baby used to say, when I was your age.
Son: Shut up, Dad. I'm watching Rick and Morty.
  • Foreshadowing: Brian asking Stewie why he's so interested in someone not as advanced as him hints at his own jealousy in all this.
  • Friendship Denial: After Brian confesses his jealousy over being pushed aside for a new friend, Stewie denies ever really being friends with Brian to start with. A kinder example than most, however, as Stewie says he and Brian are family, which makes them closer than friends.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Brian becomes jealous of Stewie's friendship with Hudson.
  • Jerkass: Brian mentions he likes going to the zoo to mock the captive animals.
  • Knockout Gas: Used by Stewie on Hudson's party.
  • Lightning Can Do Anything: Subverted and played straight. A lightning strike causes Tony Robbins' ghost to possess Peter's car...until it's revealed that it was all a trick by Robbins to help Peter. Robbins then reveals that he was created by lightning.
  • Morality Chain: Hudson convinces Stewie that trying to kill his mother is bad. Stewie promises to be a better person for the sake of their friendship. When it looks like Hudson has slighted him, Stewie relapses.
  • Nice Guy: Hudson. He's a genuinely good friend to Stewie, and even (successfully) convinces him not to kill his mother.
  • Overly Long Gag: The scene of Peter trying to get rid of a booger stuck on his finger.
  • Riddle for the Ages: What was the set up to the “Cast of Park & Recs Peter” cutaway?
  • Shout-Out:
    • Tony Robbins' eye in the window of Peter's car is taken from Jurassic Park.
    • Hudson getting a gas mask in a gift box and being told to put it on is taken from a similar scene in Batman (1989).
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Brian deliberately kept the invitation from Stewie out of jealousy of his new friendship with Hudson. As a result, Stewie attacked the party and nearly killed Hudson.
  • Trickster Mentor: Tony Robbins to Peter.
  • Your Size May Vary: Tony Robbins' height is inconsistently exaggerated based on Rule of Funny, from comparing him to Frankenstein at the minimum to him using two smart cars as roller skates to skate down the road.
