Recap / Fairy May Cry – Devil's Retribution, 41 "The Fairy Tactician"

Go To

The final event of the Grand Magic Games begins, a battle royale between all participating teams! Meanwhile, Dante and several members of Fairy Tail and Crime Sorciere infiltrate the royal palace to rescue Lucy and Yukino.

The Fairy Tactician contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Context Change: Sting still delivers a Curb-Stomp Battle to Bacchus, but rather than one-shotting him like in canon, waits for him to tire himself out against Ichiya before using a surprise attack to inflict a stigma on both combatants, rendering them unable to move. This lets him unleash his full power on both and quickly knock them out.
  • Apologetic Attacker: Rogue mostly sticks to hit and run tactics along with attacks, but apologises to Wally after doing so to Sho, indicating he finds it distasteful.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Jenny finds herself on the wrong end of one from Erza, owing to the Requip mage's greater power and newly expanded versatility.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Elfman is not fond of Bacchus at all, but he is incensed that Sting took him out with a cheap shot, feeling the man deserved a better chance to shine.
  • Irony: Lampshaded by Juvia when she defeats Risley (a member of Mermaid Heel) using Water Magic.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Several characters decide to flee in battles they find themselves outmatched, with varying degrees of success.
  • Shoot the Medic First: Sapphire takes out Hibiki from the get go, aiming to reduce Blue Pegasus's ability to coordinate and strategise.
