Vic is rehired at the radio station, only to find that the station's owner has brought in a new manager to update the music's format for more contemporary tastes. Feeling jealous of the rapport Big Bill has developed with the kids, Frank tries to balance his promises to all three of the kids with the demands of his job. Bob Pogo returns to work at Mohican, which is struggling with new FAA security regulations in the wake of the hijacking. Kevin's blossoming relationship with Alice inspires him to try harder at school and in his music. Bill attends his first hockey practice of the semester. Rosie continues his campaign to become alderman of his neighborhood, but gets little support from his coworkers. Bullied by Amy, Maureen finds an unlikely ally in Bridget.

Tropes:

  • Body Horror: The Mohican crew is shocked when they see Bob Pogo on his first day back at work after his heart attack, where he has lost so much weight that he has huge folds of residual skin drooping from his face and belly. He's also noticeably lethargic and short of breath, making even short stretches of conversation an effort.
  • Call-Back: Heidi, the cow who escaped falling into the tiger cage at the zoo after narrowly escaping being hit by the train only to have her throat torn out by a monkey on TV, is shown on TV with her owner again, with stitches on her throat and requiring an electrolarynx to moo. This time, nothing happens to her, giving her an unusual happy ending for the series so far.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: As Frank is running out of the airport trying to make it to Bill's hockey practice, you can briefly see Ed manning Alaquippa's baggage check station in a green uniform, though he doesn't speak.
  • Shown Their Work: Bob Pogo correctly calls the huge flap of loose abdominal skin that hangs to his knees a panniculus. He even gives it a name - Gordon.
  • Title Drop: Mr. Fitzsimmons says that the "first kid to bring me a tooth" will not have to perform a difficult hockey drill.
  • Visual Pun: Bridget, pretending to reconcile with Bill in the lunchroom at school, asks Bill if Hong Kong is the capital of Thailand. Bill correctly responds that it is Bangkok. Bridget takes this answer quite literally, much to Bill's agony.
