• Broke Episode: In a way. Rochelle spends her saved cash to keep up an appearance for her friend Sheila, and spends the rest of the episode attempting to recoup it by selling the $200 worth of food stamps Julius found.
• Call-Back: The argument between Chris and Greg by the lockers that gets misinterpreted as a lover's quarrel by two onlooking girls is a reference to a similar gag from a previous episode.
• Irony: Rochelle pays for name brand groceries with cash instead of food stamps to impress Sheila. Little does she know, Sheila is quite fond of using food stamps and when Rochelle swiftly pretends to not have been attempting to sell food stamps to recoup that lost cash, Sheila asks her to let her know when the food stamps saleswoman comes by again because she'd like to buy some.
• Not Me This Time: Rochelle yells out Chris' name when the lights go out, despite it not even being his fault.
• Pride: Rochelle is, as Adult!Chris puts it, a "ghetto snob" in that, despite being poor, Rochelle puts a lot of pride towards her appearance, especially around her friend Sheila. She particularly hates paying with food stamps because people look at her funny. This causes her undoing as she gets ready to pay for name brand groceries with the $200 worth of food stamps Julius found until Sheila comes by, and decides to pay with the cash she was saving up to impress her. Spending that money means that the family has no money to watch Rocky III like they were planning to do, nor any to pay the electric bill. They don't even have the food stamps anymore since Rochelle spent it to get her hair done.
