• Chickenpox Episode: Drew and Tonya get chicken pox, and Julius and Rochelle have to take care of them.
• Donut Mess with a Cop: The cops at the station all buy cookies from Chris, which greatly helps him raise money for his fundraiser.
• Eye Scream: Flashbacks show multiple past occasions where Julius and Rochelle were forced to cancel an event they were supposed to go together, in order to stay at home taking care of one of their kids. One of those situations had Drew somehow losing his eyeball and holding it on his hand.
• Genre Savvy: Chris, despite only being 13, knows all too well about how racial profiling works, and knows exactly what he'll be in for when he gets arrested.
• Here We Go Again!: After both Drew and Tonya get over their bad cases of chicken pox, Chris catches it, on the way to his trip to Washington D.C., no less.
• Irony: Chris could've easily gotten cookie sales without having to lie about them being stolen if he went to a police station.
• I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Deconstructed. Drew and Tonya get chicken pox, and no babysitters want to look after sick kids (not like they'd want a babysitter considering what happened last time). This forces Julius and Rochelle to stay home, until Julius decides to stay home with them while Sheila takes his place. Julius gets incredibly jealous because she had such a good time without him, especially since this one specific time, the tickets he got from Risky were actually very good (in the front row of all places!) instead of the usual ones where they sit in the back with Julius' seat being obscured by a metal rod.
• Profiling: At the station, Chris is put into a lineup for the robbery of a Girl Scout Cookies truck. According to the cop, he "fit the description", when in reality, the only thing he has in common with the suspect is being black.
• Yank the Dog's Chain: After having a hard time selling the cookies, and when business starts booming, he gets arrested for claiming they're stolen, Chris is still able to go on the trip thanks to the money he made, but he caught chicken pox from his siblings.
