Meet Eureka's new Sh... oh.

Allison: [Translating for Sheriff Andy] I just came to town. Why would someone want to murder me?
Carter: I would. I mean, if I wanted my job back.
Allison: Me too.
Jo: I wouldn't mind seeing you dead. No offense.

Carter deals with job hunting. Meanwhile, the new android sheriff arrives.

Tropes

  • Actor Allusion: Ty Olsson also played a Sheriff in Murder, She Wrote.
  • Call-Back: Hey, remember when S.A.R.A.H. went crazy and took a bunch of hostages because Carter was thinking of leaving Eureka? Well, imagine what happens when he's fired...
  • Cliffhanger: After the problem of the week is solved and Carter is reinstated, Henry comes to Allison with some concerns: a signal has been detected, and something in space is heading right for Eureka.
  • Genre Savvy: After asking Henry a scientific question, Carter immediately clarifies and asks if it is "Eureka possible".
  • I'll Never Tell You What I'm Telling You!: Since Carter was fired and has no clearance, Allison can't tell him anything about GD projects. She certainly can't tell him about a Dr. Leonardo, a dendrogeneticist who might know something about the trees that fell.
Allison: I'd be breaking about 35 federal laws to tell you that.
  • Loophole Abuse: Carter being fired has to be signed off on by the Mayor. Since Henry never did that, Carter was technically never fired. Andy (who doesn't want to be Sheriff) had to comb his databanks for that little bylaw.
  • Manipulative Bastard: S.A.R.A.H. contacted Dr. Fielding over the internet posing as a scientist from Germany and made him fall in love, all to gain access to his gravity machine and use it to kill Sheriff Andy so Carter won't have to leave. She's only found out when Carter bluffs her that he thinks Zoe is the culprit, making S.A.R.A.H. confess to protect her. Carter busting her probably plays right into S.A.R.A.H.'s hands anyway, as it proves he's the man for the job.
  • Meaningful Name: Sheriff Andy, short for Android.
  • Murder the Hypotenuse: A non-romantic example. S.A.R.A.H. manipulated Dr. Fielding so she could use his gravitational device to kill Carter's replacement so he wouldn't have to leave Eureka.
  • Running Gag: Being the Sheriff's Jeep is no fun even when it's not Carter behind the wheel. This time the Jeep is crushed by a gravity well while Andy (the target of the anomalies) is inside.
  • Spoiler Title: Such a big surprise that Carter gets his job back.
  • Shout-Out:
    Zoe: Bite me, Terminator!
    • With an android as Sheriff, RoboCop references are a given.
  • Status Quo Is God: Carter is Sheriff again and Andy is gone by the end of the episode.
  • Tempting Fate: Andy says that he's on top of everything, just as a giant antenna dish falls on top of him. Later, he tells Carter something similar, moments before his car is crushed with him in it.
