Yep, that's a robot all right.

Jo: It's just my luck right? All the good ones are either gay, married, or robots.

A young man comes to Eureka who has a strange connection to Nathan Stark. Does he have anything to do with strange fluctuations in the power grid?

Meanwhile, a rift appears in Jack and Zoe's relationship as her big secret comes to light.

Tropes

  • Androids Are People, Too: To the point that Nathan has fatherly feelings for Callister.
  • Brick Joke: Two scenes after the exchange below in The Gadfly, Jo has this to say when she next lays eyes on Carter.
Jo: When you finish the communique, you're supposed to say "over."
  • Do Androids Dream?:
Callister: What's going to happen to me?
Nathan: Remember what Alan Turing said?
Callister: He figured God could give a computer a soul if he wanted to. Do you think that's true?
    Nathan: I know it is.
  • The Gadfly: Carter enjoys annoying Jo.
Jo: [On radio] S2 to S1. Repeat, S2 to S1, over.
Carter: Jo, its just you and me. You can feel free to be a little less formal. [Radio silence] Over.
Jo: There's an electrical problem at Osbourne's farm on the way into town, over.
Carter: See, was that so hard? [Puts away handset]
    Callister: You didn't say over.
Carter: I know, it's gonna bug her all day long.
  • Important Haircut: Variation: Zoe dyes her hair scarlet. Carter has a problem with it at first, but later says it's growing on him. She immediately decides she doesn't like it.
Carter: [Zoe leaves earshot] Thank God.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Stark reveals his soft side in his relationship to Callister.
  • Not Helping Your Case: Zoe, on being made to get counselling from Beverly.
Zoe: Actually, my Dad's making me go here. Apparently I have "issues" with "authority" and "listening" and... I don't know, other stuff. I wasn't really paying attention, so...
  • Ridiculously Human Robots: Callister was considered to be human by the townfolk of Eureka. Justified since Stark created him in order to see if an android could interact with humans and be treated as a human.
  • Slap-Slap-Kiss: Jo, when Callister returns to town.
Jo: [Kisses Callister] That's for coming back... [Punches him] and that's for leaving!
  • Something Else Also Rises: Implied when Carter gets dragged into an electric fence that's become magnetised, Allison gets too close and is dragged in herself, ending up plastered against Carter. She squirms around a little, trying to get free, then suddenly stops and stares at Carter with raised eyebrows. They make painfully awkward chitchat for a few moments until Jo gets the power turned off.
  • Tsundere: When Callister returns, Jo first kisses, then punches him.
