Recap / Eddsworld Surf N Turf Wars Part 1

Go To

Edd, Tom, and Matt go to the beach.

  • Author Avatar: In the final scene, Matt encounters a lobster at the beach, a reference to Matt Hargreaves' online name "MattLobster".
  • Beach Episode: The main setting of the episode.
  • Call-Back:
    • This is the first Beyond episode to show the gang's new apartment they moved to, after Tord destroyed their former house in "The End: Part 2".
    • "Slippery Slope" can be faintly heard on the TV in the beginning of the episode.
  • The Cameo:
    • In the living room, there's an old picture of all the boys including Tord in the far left, although he's ripped off from the picture and is barely visible. Given the events of "The End", it's very likely they did this on purpose.
    • Sr. Pelo can be found on the wide shot of the beach.
    • When Matt takes out his umbrella hat, both F.L.U.D.D. and a bell bag can be seen.
    • A missing poster for Madotsuki can be seen on the wall of the apartment building.
    • When Edd is challenged to the Fun-petition, a Froggy Chair can be seen in the background.
    • Two sand castles modeled after the Sandygast line can be seen in the bottom right corner a few times.
  • Cliffhanger: The episode ends with Edd and Tom falling behind in the Fun-petition and Matt mutating into a lobster monster, setting up for the next episode.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Edd uses the "You're so..." comeback on Tom, just like he did in WTFuture.
    • Matt claims that he and the sun are "old enemies" and afterward sprouts fangs and hisses at it, referencing his transformation into a vampire from "Matt Sucks".
    • In another scene, Edd says "This means war" exactly like Tord in "Tord's Adventure". Tom then proves him wrong by checking the dictionary and noting that the word "this", in fact, does not really mean "war".
  • Fanservice: The cola commercial that inspires the boys to go to the beach parodies this; it features a bikini-clad woman and a buff shirtless man, but the boys are more enthralled with the beach itself due to the escape it offers from the heat wave.
  • The Noseless: Lampshaded when Matt's lobster tries to pinch his nose, to which he points out he doesn't have one. It gets his eye instead.
  • No, You:
    Tom: Ugh, it's so hot.
Edd: You're so hot. Wait, no, I... You suck? Wait, what did you say?
    Tom: I don't remember, it's too hot.
    Edd: You're too hot.
  • Rapid-Fire Comedy: One of the most noteworthy examples in the series. There's a quick joke or gag every few seconds or so.
  • Running Gag: The characters reading definitions of words in a dictionary.
  • Seashell Bra: Parodied. When Edd and Tom get the idea of going to the beach, Matt gets the idea of putting on a coconut bra instead. Later on, Tom decides to put on a coconut bra right after Edd challenges the bullies to the Fun-petition, which leads the bullies to mistake Tom for a girl, who they want to take with them if they beat Edd's gang in the Fun-petition.
  • Shapeshifting Excludes Clothing: When Matt mutates into a lobster monster at the end of the episode, he grows to a size where the transformation rips his clothes apart.
