Thick as an Ed is an episode from Season 4 of Ed, Edd n Eddy.
A feud erupts between Ed and Edd over the former's lucky chunk of cheese Sheldon, who unfortunately smells horrible for Edd to refuse to help Eddy with his frog-catching scam. It's up to Eddy to get rid of Sheldon and put things back on track.
Tropes:
- Art Shift: Ed's dream is crudely drawn in crayon.
- Big "SHUT UP!": Eddy when he has had enough of Ed and Edd arguing about Sheldon.
- Bottle Episode: Aside from a cameo by Sarah (and a stylized drawing of Johnny and Plank during Ed's dream), the Eds have this episode all to themselves.
- Broken Record: Ed isn't very good at trash-talking, so he simply shouts "Stinky hat!" at Edd each time Edd insults Sheldon.
- Color Failure: The color literally melts off Edd's body the first time he smells "Sheldon".
- Companion Cube: Ed seems to hold Sheldon in higher regard than his own friends Edd and Eddy.
- Hammerspace: Edd carries a portable shower and a decontamination bin around with him.
- Here We Go Again!: Following Sheldon's demise, Ed brings in Angus, his fish-skeleton lucky charm.
- Instant Fish Kill: After spending the entire day failing to try to dispose of Ed's 57 day old stinky cheese, Eddy proceeds to furiously swipe the cheese and chuck it into the pond next to him. Cue several fish floating up.
- Jerkass Has a Point: Eddy tells Ed and Edd they need to knock off the argument.
- MacGuffin: Not the good type, but it's Sheldon, the lucky cheese charm Ed's been keeping in his pocket and let rot for 57 days.
- Nausea Dissonance: Eddy doesn't give a shit how bad Sheldon smells, he just wants Edd to ignore it like he does and focus on catching frogs for their newer scam.
- Only Sane Man: Surprisingly enough, it's Eddy who plays this role. With Edd freaking out over Ed's smelly cheese to the exclusion of anything else and Ed...being Ed, Eddy's the only one who's actually trying to get anything done.
- Shapeshifting Excludes Clothing: When Sheldon hits Edd, Edd crumbles into ash, clothes and all. However, his hat is left entirely intact.
- Shout-Out: Eddy calls Edd "De Niro" for refusing to work under certain conditions (or for being so dramatic).
- Strange Salute: Eddy tricks Ed into taking off his jacket so it could serve as the flag of "Edtropia". After it gets hoisted up a tree, Ed salutes it with his foot.
- Throw the Dog a Bone: Eddy gets refreshingly little slapstick in this episode, especially compared to Edd. The worst that happens to him is being flung to the ground by Ed. However, this may have been "balanced out" with that other episode...
- Team Dad: Eddy has to play this role when Edd and Ed start bickering.
- Toon Physics: When Ed's cheese hits Edd, the latter crumbles into dust, but is perfectly fine in the next scene.
- Wilting Odor: "Sheldon" is so repulsive, it is shown to have a hazardous effect on the environment, killing several fish when it falls into the pond.
- Wingding Eyes: Edd gets X eyes at the end of his "death".
