Go To

Tom and Thunder rescue a baby Night Light trapped by Buzzsaw whom they name Shadow. He leads them to Thunder's family. Unfortunately, an accident with Tom's lightning sword results in the Night Light Alpha throwing out the Riders and Tom and Thunder have to seperate. However, Shadow brings them back as something has attacked the Night Lights.

Tropes:

  • Answer Cut: Eugene brings a tire for Shadow to play with, so Jun asks where he got it from. He says not to worry about that, at which point the scene cuts to a random I.C.A.R.U.S. worker realizing his jeep is missing a tire. Eugene then tells the others to hurry up before someone notices.
  • Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs: Eugene's ideas for a name for the baby Night Light are "Blood Shadow", "Death Shadow", and "Blood-Death Shadow". Tom settles for just "Shadow".
  • Cliffhanger: Shadow frantically calls the Dragon Club back to the Night Lights' home, which is now abandoned and covered in Snow Wraith frost.
  • Cub Cues Protective Parent: Soon after the Dragon Club reunites Shadow with Goggles and Splattertail, their parents show up and advance threateningly on the humans. Luckily, Thunder defuses the situation.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Jun and D'Angelo quickly fall into this while interacting with Shadow.
  • Durable Deathtrap: On the way from the ice realm to the Night Lights' ancestral home, the Dragon Club encounters tripwires, pitfalls, and darts that have stayed intact for over a millennium. Eugene manages to get hurt by all of them.
  • Jealous Pet: Wei gets annoyed when Jun calls Shadow "the cutest baby".
  • Pale Females, Dark Males: Thunder's mother is more white than black and has a more streamlined appearance of a Light Fury, while his father is more black than white and has the nubs and spines of a Night Fury.
  • Schmuck Bait: Eugene opens a chest that he describes is full of "gears and turny things", which the others realize is a trap. They dodge just as Eugene gets caught in a net.
  • Spanner in the Works: Shadow's fixation on Tom's silver sword causes Tom to accidentally redirect his lightning blast into an elderly Night Light, causing Thunder's parents to become hostile again.
  • Stalker Shot: As Tom and Thunder fly back to the entrance cave, a mysterious dragon is shown to be watching them. The audience suddenly sees from said dragon's sight, which is infrared, revealing it to be a Snow Wraith.
  • Third-Act Misunderstanding: Thanks to Shadow, Tom accidentally injures an old Night Light, causing Thunder's family to become hostile to the Dragon Club. Tom opts to leave Thunder behind with his family and ride off with Jun on Wu & Wei, as to not have to make him choose between his dragon family and human friends.
