When the town's well runs dry, Hiccup and Toothless discover the group of baby Whispering Death dragons in the tunnels underneath the village planted there by Alvin and the Outcasts. The teens try to drive the Whispering Death hatchlings away from the village before they destroy Berk, only for something worse to show up...

Tropes

  • Book Ends: Gobber running away from his bath. He finally receives it at the end.
  • Call-Back: Hiccup uses the Screaming Death’s attraction to light is similar to how he discovered it in the first movie with Toothless and a Terrible Terror.
  • Disability Immunity: Averted, the Screaming Death's scream is loud enough to stagger Thornado. Keep in mind that Thunderdrums are hard of hearing, nearly deaf, when out of water.
  • Forced Bath: At the end of the episode when the water supply is replenished, Gobber is forced to finally take a bath.
  • Foreshadowing: Hiccup notices one Whispering Death tunnel much larger than the others.
  • Funny Background Event: After Tuffnut makes a comment on Ruffnut's butt, she quickly turns to examine it before punching her brother.
  • Giant Mook: The Screaming Death is only a hatchling, yet six times larger than a normal Whispering Death.
  • Greed: Snotlout starts charging the villagers for the rationed water.
  • The Juggernaut: Screaming Death, which is unstoppable and thus has to be tricked into defeat.
  • Thou Shalt Not Kill: Despite having incapacitated the Screaming Death, Hiccup refuses to deliver a lethal blow to the dragon. It manages to escape, and recover.
  • Make Me Wanna Shout: The Screaming Death gets its name from its dragon disorienting scream.
  • Pass the Popcorn: The twins sit back and fondly watch the chaos the Whispering Deaths cause, until the Screaming Death's appearance elicits an Oh, Crap! reaction from them.
  • The Pig-Pen: The episode starts with the main characters trying to give Gobber a bath, only to find a dry well. Gobber gleefully skips off when it becomes apparent that the village needs to conserve water.
  • Weakened by the Light: The Whispering Deaths flee from sunlight, as usual, but the Screaming Death is attracted to it instead. Hiccup demonstrates that that's still a weakness.
