Haunted
Imprinted as Margaret, a recently deceased friend of Adelle's, Echo tries to solve Margaret's murder. Topher imprints Sierra to be his playmate for the day. Ballard uses his remaining FBI connections to gather information on Mellie/November.
Tropes
- Birthday Episode: Topher's subplot is revealed at the very end to be this.
- Crazy-Prepared: Margaret has spent some time creating the history of a fake pen pal, Julia, who can turn up at her funeral, but who is really Margaret’s back-up memories in a Doll to investigate her own death.
- Innocuously Important Episode: The episode is mostly self-contained, Ballard's subplot being the only exception. The concept of giving life after death by uploading a dead person's memories into a different body, introduced and discussed here, becomes much more important come Epitaph One.
- Irony: While Sierra is imprinted as a nerd friend for Topher, she suggests copying an identity onto a doll to have fun with, unaware that Topher is doing this already with her.
- Whodunnit to Me?: Echo’s imprint in this case is a relatively recent back-up of the deceased Margaret, intended to allow Margaret to visit ‘her’ funeral and work out who killed ‘her’. However, she is handicapped from the beginning as she obviously doesn’t have all of her original self’s memories as the backup is only carried out every month, creating a gap of a few weeks.
