Go To

Though saved from being court-martialed, Garbage must undergo special training if he wishes to lead his crew again. However, this may prove difficult when he lacks focus.

Meanwhile, Kira attempts to adjust to life on the M-Bark until she is healed of her injuries.

Spin contains examples of:

  • Body Horror: A dog named Luke suffers an unknown alien mutation on his arm following a recent mission, which requires a trip to sick bay for its genetic enhancement chamber to turn him back to normal. Chonies implies that things like this happen frequently.
    • When Kira accidentally damages it during her rant, the process causes the mutation to worsen and take over half Luke's body.
  • Epic Fail: Garbage initially loses his Captain status for losing focus, causing him to fail his training. Epically so.
    • Many of Garbage's failures in scenario training ended with explosions. 27 in a row. One of them centered around a TV Baking Show!
Penelope: How did that one end in an explosion?!
      Garbage: Flour is surprisingly flammable.
    • He failed so bad in Scenario Zero, he made a simulated audience cry.
  • Positive Friend Influence: Penelope has to fail Garbage on his initial captain qualification tests, accurately pointing out that he didn't fulfill any of the parameters. Then, she sees how he applies the leadership skills to work with Kira and save a dog that became a full-on Eldritch Abomination. When Kira has a crisis of confidence by pointing out that she messed up all day while trying to fit in and avoid trouble, Garbage says that he knows fighting monsters is her specialty. Penelope comes to the sickbay to congratulate them and agrees to let him become captain again, on the condition that Kira joins his crew. After some convincing and setting up her new quarters, Kira decides she won't go back to the vine planet just yet.
  • Serious Business: Penelope takes her old dog show accomplishments very seriously and with pride. It's implied that her training is based on the qualities of winning dog shows and she even has a specific event used as a last resort for Garbage, codenamed Scenario Zero.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: After suspending Garbage, Penelope is implied to still be monitoring him to see any change in his behavior. She confirms this when she reveals she saw his leading of helping a mutated Luke. However, she says she was still in her office since she's not prepped for a life-threatening crisis.
