Recap / Dinotrux S 08 E 08 Scraptool Apprentice

Go To

D-Structs and D-Stroy give Skrap-It a task to complete while they are away, which leads to an army of supercharged Scraptools wreaking havoc on the crater.

Tropes:

  • An Aesop: Don't try to take shortcuts or they'll backfire on you, a lesson that Revvit learns the hard way, and is equally applicable to the situation Skrap-It finds himself in.
Skrap-It: I feel a life lesson coming on, but you know I'm really trying to avoid it!
  • Crazy-Prepared: Revvit attempts to be this by using his analytical nature to determine the most common repair jobs and make pre-assembled repair kits to save time, but when the Supercharged Scraptools start causing irregular damage, the gang find themselves short on supplies and the pre-assembled repair kits useless.
  • Distracted by the Shiny: Revvit's plan to defeat the Supercharged Scraptools is to build a large booby-trapped sphere of scrap. True to their nature, the Scraptools can't help but chase after it and tear it apart, which triggers a trap that disables their superchargers.
  • Enemy Mine: Trapped together, Skrap-It is forced to work with Revvit and Click-Clack to escape.
  • Phlebotinum Overload: When Supercharged Revvit and Supercharged Skrap-It accidentally run into each other, the two superchargers colliding causes an explosion that shorts out their supercharge. Revvit uses this to his advantage to set a trap for the other Scraptools by building a scrap ball that when the Scraptools attempt to take apart, will trigger two superchargers to slam into each other, shorting them all out at once.
  • Retcon: It had been implied back in "Superchargers" that tools were incompatible with spark bugs and thus couldn't be supercharged at all. Here, Skrap-It, Revvit and Click-Clack and an army of Scraptools all supercharge without anyone making a big deal of it.
  • Sorcerer's Apprentice Plot: Hence the name of the episode; Skrap-It supercharges himself and all the other scraptools to work for him, but the scraptools eventually turn on him.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: By the end of the episode Skrap-It has barely started trying to collect all the scrap in the crater all over again when D-Structs and D-Stroy arrive. When D-Structs tries to scold Skrap-It for failing, D-Stroy points out D-Structs didn't think Skrap-It would be able to get anything.
Skrap-It: Uh... hey, that was a compliment! ...was that a compliment??
