Recap / Diagnosis: Murder S2E19 "Naked Babes"

Go To

As Angela is having the gang over for dinner, her friend Angela Pearson comes to her door. Angela is pregnant with quadruplets, and gives birth to them in Amanda's bedroom. What's especially troubling is her cries to the gang about not letting "them" take her babies, and her disappearing shortly afterwards. Mark's only clue is Shady Glen Maternity Home, where Angela has been staying the last two months for care. The investigation stumbles on a sinister baby selling operation...

"Naked Babes" displays symptoms of the following tropes:

  • Actor Allusion: When Ty shows up to Amanda's house and introduces himself as the nanny sent to him, Jack says "You don't look like Mary Poppins to me!".
  • And Starring: Dwight Schultz as Dr. Henry Wexler and Boyd Kestner as Roger Davis.
  • Ask a Stupid Question...:
    Steve: We'll boil some water.
    Norman: Why?
    Steve: For the pasta, Norman.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Dr. Wexler is at least partially willing to steal babies away from their mothers and sell them off to God knows who, but he isn't comfortable with murder. When he and Kate are taken down he sounds a bit relieved that this mess is over.
  • A Family Affair: Amanda's cover story for giving up her "baby" while investigating Shady Glen is that the baby's father ran off with her sister and doesn't want the baby.
  • Femme Fatale: It's pretty clear that Kate Davis is the one wearing the pants in this scheme.
  • Fiery Cover Up: Roger plans to burn Shady Glen to the ground with Amanda and Angela in it.
  • Gentle Giant: Ty Bradford, the engineering student/nanny Jack calls in for backup, is a sensitive soul cut out for nannying work played by the huge football player Bo Jackson.
  • MacGyvering: Ty is able to craft a set of cradles that rock for the quadruplets out of some drawers, round objects at the ends of said drawers, and some wire hangers to rock them/hold the babies' bottles.
  • Screaming Birth: Angela is shrieking as she gives birth. Justified, considering she's giving birth to quadruplets in a bedroom without access to any of the medicines that would help out with this, on top of worrying that the Shady Glen staff could potentially steal her babies and sell them off.
  • Special Guest: Bo Jackson as sensitive nanny (or manny, if you must) Ty Bradford.
  • Too Many Babies: Angela is pregnant with quadruplets, and her husband is in Alaska working an environmental project. Then there's a group of assholes trying to steal her babies to sell them on the black market. While she's being kept hostage in Shady Glen, the team (soon reduced down to just Jack), have to keep care for them in Amanda's house.
