Following Savathun's re-emergence and subsequent semi-death. The Lucent Brood are mobilizing in force to enact some sort of plan. Caitl lends her aid to the Vanguard to bring them down. By capturing members of the Lucent Brood, she can have her Psions rip the information straight out of their minds after the Guardian subdues them in a Battle in the Center of the Mind.

Season of the Risen contains examples of:

  • Accidental Murder: Crow ends up accidentally killing Caitl's Psion emissary when he improperly shuts down the machine that allows the Psion to extract information from their minds. It nearly results in the alliance between the Cabal and the Vanguard falling apart.
  • Battle in the Center of the Mind: The Psi-Ops Battlegrounds, the new seasonal activity, are this. Players track down a high-ranking member of the Lucent Brood and, after weakening them, are plunged into the Mindscape by Caitl's Psions to break Savathun's hold over them so that they can be safely interrogated.
  • Please Kill Me if It Satisfies You: After accidentally killing Caitl's Psion Emissary. Crow was prepared to die for what he had done. However, Saladin intervenes and manages to salvage the situation without any violence by offering his life in place of Crow's. Instead of killing him, Caitl appoints him to her War Council as Bracus Forge.
  • Rank Up: After Saladin is made to join Caitl's War Council as Bracus Forge, he ends up being challenged to six rites of Proving within his first three days. He wins them all, and because one of them was against a Valus, he ends up being promoted from the relatively low command rank of Bracus to the much higher (third from the top) rank of Valus.
  • Simultaneous Arcs: While players had the option of focusing on solely Witch Queen content versus this seasonal story, the events of this season are highly intertwined with the events of Witch Queen between racing to contain the Lucent Brood and the Friendly Fire conflict between Caiatl's forces and the Vanguard at the start of the campaign.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Caiatl is accustomed to acting without any oversight and struggles sharing operations with the Vanguard. This operation involves morally dubious kidnapping of lightbearer Hive and keeping them subdued with Psion mental powers. Crow was unsettled by participating in this and tried to unplug one to alleviate the pain the Hive were feeling, but did not realize he would kill the Psion in doing so. Caiatl demanded blood and Crow was willing to offer himself, but Zavala was prepared to break the alliance to protect Crow. Saladin offered a third option where he pledged loyalty to Caiatl's war council, technically renouncing his membership in the Vanguard (except for Iron Banner) but with a Guardian willingly in her chain of command Caiatl is satisfied.
