Metal is the thirty fifth Episode in DC Universe Online, which loosely adapts the Dark Nights: Metal storyline. This episode introduces the titular Dark Knights such as Red Death, The Merciless, and the Batman Who Laughs.

Tropes

  • All for Nothing: Not only does the heroes and villians' plan to stop the Dark Knights ultimately fail, but it ends up succeeding their goal to bring their universe into the Dark Multiverse.
  • Badass in Distress:
    • The Flash is forced to run on the Cosmic Treadmill by Red Death, opening portals into Central City and infecting its citizens with the metal virus.
    • Batman and Superman who are both captured by the Dark Knights, are chained up to their device to bring their Universe into the Dark Multiverse.
  • Berserk Button: Wonder Woman is furious when the Merciless brags that he essentially made the Amazons he had killed into his personal army, declaring that no amazon would be made a slave again, no matter what Universe they're in.
  • Big Bad: Of the three evil Batmen who appear, it is the Batman who Laughs who is running the show.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Anyone who is infected with the metal virus. From the police, the citizens, even some of the heroes and villains.
  • Composite Character: Red Death, The Batman Who Laughs, and The Merciless is a combination of Batman with The Flash, The Joker, and Ares respectively.
  • Enemy Mine: Wonder Woman and Ares join forces to stop the Merciless.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Barbatos the Bat God is who the Dark Knights ultimately serve.
  • My God, What Have I Done?:
    • Some of the GCPD freed from the Metal Virus have this reaction due to people they have possibly hurt.
    • Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy after being freed from The Batman who Laughs' cards, immediately worrying about hurting Nora and Harley Quinn respectively.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Wonder Woman and Superman take on one of the Dark Knights in Metropolis while the latter searches for Batman. Which Dark Knight(s) they fight is never specified.
  • The Unfought: You don't directly fight Ares in False Idols. In fact you soon join forces with him.
  • You Can't Thwart Stage One: The Batman who Laughs' plan to bring our universe into the Dark Multiverse ultimately succeeds.
  • You Monster!: Wonder Woman calls Ares this after he uses Typhon's monsters and Cerebus to aid him against her and her allies.
