Chapter 14 — Sinister Result

Mitsuki's hope that her son would manage to avoid the worst of his punishment has failed, as Bakugo was unable to rein himself in nor actually show his remorse. Bakugo is taken to a mental institution where they will work to determine if Bakugo should be allowed to remain free. In despair, Mitsuki decides to try to call Inko, since she's her only hope.

At U.A., Nezu angrily laments how he and the other teachers arrived too late to do anything other than detain the villains that the students have already fought. While only three students have been heavily injured (Iida, Yaoyorozu and Izuku), all of them are in great shock after being forced to fight for their lives, and Nezu anticipates turmoil from the events at the USJ from without and within the school. Aizawa gives his report on the attack, listing the worst affected students, both physical and mentally, while it becomes clear that Izuku's Quirk is affecting him and his impartiality.

At the medical office, Izuku manages to wake up, and is immediately jumped on by Tsuyu, who immediately shows him how worried she was, because this time his injuries were so severe that he was left clinically dead for two minutes. Izuku manages to calm her down by hugging her, and tells her he loves her, which she reciprocates. Their tender moment is gently interrupted by Inko, as well as Kyouka and Tokoyami, who bring food for Izuku.

Meanwhile, Beru meets with the teachers to demand explanations for the attack. Nezu admits that they have no excuse beyond the fact that security had weakened in the past years, and Aizawa hands the lawyer the report on the incident. Reading it, she accepts helping U.A. in working how to help prevent the students from getting in trouble for their actions.

Back at the medical office, Inko takes Tsuyu away for a private talk leaving Izuku alone with his thoughts - and all he does is believe he is going to be expelled after his accidental killing of the Nomu, as well as blame himself for Yaoyorozu's injuries. Tokoyami and Kyouka tell Izuku and Yaoyorozu that they can take care of their obligations as class representatives until the two recover. The two leave, and Uraraka arrives, asking about his health and hinting at wanting to have a date with him, but Izuku gently lets her down, while Tsuyu returns and makes it obvious that she and Izuku are dating now. Uraraka leaves the room crying, while Momo (who is still mostly deaf from Lily's Quirk) loudly asks what happened.

Tropes That Appear In This Chapter:

  • Anger Born of Worry: Tsuyu shouts at Izuku for almost dying at the USJ.
  • Anguished Declaration of Love: Izuku and Tsutu reveal their feelings for each other after he wakes up from his injuries.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: When Uraraka asks Izuku out on a date, Tsuyu arrives and declares Izuku is hers while giving him a Marshmallow Hell and Uraraka a Death Glare.
  • Crime of Self-Defense: Downplayed. While it is obvious that all the students were acting to defend themselves from villains that were willing to murder them, Nezu knows that the press will likely attempt to paint the students in a bad light for using their full strength. This goes double for Izuku, who not only (accidentally) killed the Nomu while trying to use his Quirk to put it under control, but also blames himself for how Momo got caught in the effect of Lily's Quirk.
  • Determinator: Iida managed to reach U.A.'s main building and raise the alarm even after his engines overheated, giving him second-degree burns, and managed to remain conscious until he was sure that his classmates were safe.
  • First-Name Basis: Izuku uses this to talk to Tokoyami and Jiro when thanking them for their support.
  • Heroic RRoD: While not all the students were injured in the attack, they are all in heavy shock, requiring psychiatric help, after being forced to fight for their lives in what was meant to be a safe place.
  • It's All My Fault: Izuku blames himself for Momo's injuries, thinking that he should have taken precautions to prevent Lily's Quirk from affecting her.
  • Obfuscating Insanity: Tokoyami's apparent fall into murderous insanity was just a show to intimidate the villains attacking him, Aoyama and Koda.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: While giving his report, Aizawa slips and uses Izuku's given name instead of his surname, a sign that he was clearly affected by Izuku's Quirk.

  • We Have Become Complacent: Nezu admits that U.A.'s security was not as strong as it should have been because the recent peace caused the school to shift parts of the security budget to other areas.
