Directed by Michael Watkins

Garcia: "Hope is faith holding out its hand in the dark." George Iles.
Garcia attends a support group for people who have lost loved ones. One of the members discovers a letter from her daughter who went missing seven years ago and is approached by a man who reveals that he kidnapped her daughter and has been raping her since, but she killed herself rather than bear his child, so he decided to reach out to her mother.

Tropes

  • A Day in the Limelight: Garcia gets a little screen time due to Monica being from a support group Garcia helps out with. Garcia blames herself, thinking it was her fault that Monica was taken, and she involves herself in saving Monica in the climax.
  • Foreshadowing: The UnSub’s story in Garcia’s group is about losing his pregnant wife. Monica and the BAU realize that his “wife” was really Hope and she killed herself so that she wouldn’t give him the family he wanted to have.
  • Mama Bear: Monica Kingston, Hope's mother. She goes along with her daughter’s kidnapper to be reunited with Hope. She ends up killing him once she learns what he did to her daughter.
  • Spiteful Suicide: Hope committed suicide after her abductor impregnated her to spite his delusional fantasy of having a family with her.
  • Survivor Guilt: Hope's best friend, who was with her shortly before she was abducted, clearly blames herself for Hope being abducted instead of her.

Garcia: "Find a place inside where there's joy, and the joy will burn out the pain."note
