A con-artist is scamming women by getting romantically involved with them before murdering them and cutting off their faces.
Tropes
- Embarrassing Nickname: Subverted and inverted. Monica's son tries to call his mother's boyfriend on calling someone "honey" on the phone, thinking he is cheating. The UnSub bashfully admits that he calls his own mother "honey". Monica backs him on that. Later on we learn that he was talking to another girlfriend who he was also conning for her money.
- Gender-Blender Name: Roberta wants Luke to call her Bobby.
- Gold Digger: The UnSub scams women for money by romancing them. His mother Roberta was a bigamist and black widow before she went to prison.
- His Own Worst Enemy: Everett Lynch hates himself.
- Mama Bear: Zigzagged with Roberta. She was an abusive parent to her son, but she also taught him everything she knows about cons and escaping from the authorities.
- Poker: Invoked. Krystall knows from her card dealing days that "every bluff is a tell".
- Rewatch Bonus: The first time you watch this episode you think the girl screaming after Lynch kills the woman proposing to him is her daughter, but after you learn she is Grace Lynch it changes how you view the events.
- Same Surname Means Related: Averted. Neither now nor later is there any indication that Everett Lynch is related to Garcia's old squeeze Kevin Lynch.
- Too Much Information: Krystall very much regrets asking what erotophonophilia is.
- Whole Episode Flashback: The episode starts with Rossi struggling with a recent traumatic experience. Then he tells Krystall what happened.
