Tropes:
- Agonizing Stomach Wound: According to his killer, Dan slowly bled to death after being stabbed by him.
- Alliterative Name: Sally Stone.
- Breather Episode: In-Universe. Jones assures the player that this murder is not as gruesome as the last one, so you don't have to be reluctant about solving it.
- Cranky Landlord: Gloria Roach, the superintendent of the apartment building where the victim lived.
- Drugs Are Bad: The case's theme. The victim, Dan Broke, was a junkie who ended up murdered over a drug debt of $2000, and his girlfriend is pretty much the same. Fortunately, she appears to turn her life around at the end.

- Evil Redhead: Bulldog —a drug dealer and the murderer— is a redhead. His hair color is even used as a piece of evidence against him since the victim had traces of it on his fingernails.
- Flipping the Bird: Bulldog towards Jones and the player after his interrogation. Unfortunately for him, this ends up being used against him since by this point they already knew the killer was left-handed, which is the hand Bulldog used to flip them off.
- Grudging "Thank You": Sally after Jones and the player offer themselves to look for her antidepressants.
- Horrible Housing: The victim and his girlfriend live in a run-down apartment with barely any commodities.
- The Informant: Bart Williams.Jones: I guess we don't have any other choice... We must go see Bart. He's our snitch in Caribou Corner; knows everything that's happening there.

But I hadn't seen him in days, and I don't know who killed him!Jones: ...you know, we never told you Dan had been murdered.Sally: Why else would you be here?
