Recap / Creep School S 1 E 5 Goal Keeper

Go To

The episode opens with the students in class, talking about their dreams with a mirror that displays the dreams in question. When it's Elliot's turn, he admits he doesn't know yet. The mirror only shows a barren wasteland, which leaves him upset that he's the only one who doesn't seem to know what he wants from life. He confides in his friends about his family history, and how his ancestors achieved great things and knew from an early age what they wanted in life, leaving Elliot worried that he's a failure.

Later, Elliot talks to the Master about his worries, and the Master suggests he try going to the Chamber of Goals from the school's library. Master thinks Elliot might be able to get some ideas there, and Elliot decides to give it a try.

Elliot goes to the library to search for the chamber, and hears a voice telling him that dreams come and go. The Chamber opens to Elliot and he enters it, finding a hidden passage full of empty picture frames. Elliot hangs up a few, before deciding to try one depicting a basketball trophy.

At a basketball game between students later, Elliot ends up pulling off the shot that wins the game for his team. Josh seems dejected by this turn of events, and later in the night he admits to Elliot he'd dreamed of pulling off a shot like that.

Elliot returns to the Chamber later on, and decides to try a different dream. When Gilbert goes to look for him to deliver something, he comes across Josh, and notes that he seems pale, before running off to look for Elliot. Josh then inspects his arms, only to realize to his horror that he's fading away, calling for help before disappearing completely, leaving only his clothes behind.

Gilbert finds Elliot in his room, and informs him that he won the Polymorphus Puzzle Piece Contest for guessing the correct shape of the puzzle piece. Principal Malcolm, Janice and Victoria go to see what is going on, with Malcolm revealing that is the first time someone has from Creep School has won the contest. Elsa shows up, and is disappointed she didn't win, as she had entered the contest multiple times before.

Master later notes that Elliot seems to be in a better mood, and Elliot notes that he's still working some things out. Elsewhere, Elsa is out walking Bob, when she finds Josh's clothes. Janice shows up in time to witness Elsa fade away like Josh did, alerting her to the fact that something is very wrong. In the Chamber, Elliot puts some more nails into the walls so he can hang up more picture frames and try out more dreams at a time.

Elliot continues to win at more things, before Janice runs into the room to alert Elliot to what happened to Josh and Elsa. Before they can inform Malcolm, Janice starts to fade away too. Elliot rushes through the school to investigate, and discovers that everyone else in the school seems to be disappearing too. Elliot manages to get to Malcolm in time and informs him of what is happening. Malcolm notices the hat Elliot is wearing, and discovers Elliot went into the Chamber of Goals. Malcolm begins to fade, and asks Elliot how many achievements he tried out. Elliot admits he tried them all, and Malcolm tells Elliot he's taken away everyone's dreams, before fading away.

Even the school fades away, leaving only an empty wasteland. However, the door to the Chamber of Goals still remains and Elliot goes to investigate. Elliot finds everyone else trapped in the picture frames, and tearfully asks the voice of the Chamber, the Goal Keeper, to bring his friends back. The Goal Keeper tells him there's nothing he can do as he appears before Elliot, and Elliot asks if there's anything he can do. The Goal Keeper eventually reveals the only way to save everyone is for Elliot to give up his most cherished desire.

Elliot replies he doesn't have one, and that's why the went into the Chamber in the first place. The Goal Keeper clarifies that it doesn't have to be something he wants to achieve, it just has to be what he wants most. Elliot closes his eyes and his desire takes shape in a picture frame: To be with Janice. The Goal Keeper notes that true love is a lot to give up, and asks Elliot if he is willing to make such a sacrifice, warning him he can never get it back if he agrees to it. Elliot accepts this, and finds himself back in the school library.

Elliot finds that everyone has been restored to existence, still missing their clothes due to losing them when they disappeared. Once everyone has gotten dressed again, Elliot explains to everyone what happened and the sacrifice he made to save everyone. When Janice asks what the dream Elliot gave up was, Elliot lies and says part of the deal was that he couldn't reveal it to anyone.

Later in the night, Malcolm approaches Elliot and asks if he's still sad because he doesn't know what to do with his life. Elliot is no longer concerned about that, saying he thinks that'll sort itself out and that something else is bothering him. Malcolm figures it's about the dream he gave up on, and suggests that Elliot may not necessarily need to give up on it completely. Despite the deal he made, Malcolm suggests there's still a chance Elliot's dream may come true someday.
