After the Alliance of Science detect elevated salt levels in the Creek, Wren joins Kelsey, J.P., and Craig on a voyage to unknown waters to investigate.
Tropes:
- Ambiguous Gender: Wren only refers to the merkid with gender-neutral pronouns.
- Chekhov's Gun: In the beginning of the episode, Craig teaches Kelsey and J.P. how to catch minnows by standing still instead of shouting and thrashing about. Later, this is how Craig gets the Merkid to approach them.
- Cool Boat: Craig upgrades his raft, adding an observation deck (a plastic mini slide), a motor (two wind-up shark bath toys tied to a hockey stick) and a figurehead (a rubber duck named Scrubby).
- Food as Bribe: As payment for taking her on a scientific expedition, Wren offers the Stump Trio home-made rock candy.
- Mourning an Object: The raft crew give a moment of silence to the rubber duck they were using as a figurehead.
- Mermaiding Swimsuit: The Merkid wears a mermaid tail with flippers because they like pretending they're an ocean mermaid. They even wear webbed gloves and have been salting the creek water.
- Putting the Pee in Pool: According to Wren, Carl thinks the reason salt levels have risen in the creek is because kids have been peeing in it.
- Terraform: Of a sort. The Merkid was putting table salt in their pond to simulate a marine environment.
